I have been a loyal customer to Rao's Mid County for SEVERAL years, but lately, the staff here are a hit or miss. The looks of the cakes are pretty impressive compared to the other bakeries in the area, but the employees can be rude, short, or just not care. For years, I have always chosen to get my cakes here for friends and family. This year, for all the celebrations that I have purchased cakes, I can honestly say that each experience has been exhausting or humiliating and I will no longer choose Rao's Mid County as my supplier. It's hard to get any kind of custom writing on a cake there without getting that feeling that you are inconveniencing them. I asked to add a white strip of icing (as they sometimes choose to do) with writing on top of that strip that says Happy Birthday to whomever. Instead, I received a cake with red lettering that blends right into the chocolate/caramel crosshatch cake design and was illegible. Twice this year I have had this changed. Recently for a different birthday, I just ignored it and bought it out of frustration. I felt obligated to purchase the cake as is, because the lady continued to attempt to convince me that the cake was fine the way it was in its ineligibility and that they don't put white icing in the back to contrast the lettering anyway-- which was untrue. On another instance, while waiting in line, a staff member has acknowledged someone else who was standing behind me, took their order, and exchanged food and payment with me in between them. I was just waiting for her to get my sugar cookie, she could have prioritized my order first or asked me to move before making that decision. That was very rude and disrespectful! The other person seemed awkward about it too, but followed the command of the cashier. Another time, the older lady there is often very rude and made a huge ordeal about substituting anything on the toasted sandwich combo-- of which I received soggy. I explained to her that I understood the policy and that I will order the item as directed, but she continued to vent off about how I wasn't able to ever get any substitutions. I felt humiliated and the other customers looked embarrassed for me since she would not stop talking about it. I have tried several times to continue to come back and hope that these are just one time instances, but each event has just caused me to lose confidence in this location. I hope that this place truly considers emphasizing some etiquette, as there are several training opportunities to seize. Very unprofessional and not customer oriented. The staff seem more concerned about proving a customer wrong than to educate them on minor infractions. It is such a pity, because it does not serve justice to what great products are...
Read moreWent in to order a sheet cake for a graduation party. I told the young lady what I wanted and she asked me how big, half sheet or full. I have never bought one from there so I told her for about 20 people so how many does a half or full sheet serve? She didn’t know but could ask her manager. I said well how big are they and she motions with her outstretched hands about how big the half and full sheet were. So I thought the full didn’t look too big and I said probably a full but ask your manager. I then asked if they could dye the frosting and she didn’t know that either so I asked if she could find out. When she came back and said they could dye the frosting but she forgot to ask how many it would serve so I said well based on the size she showed me I would order the full sheet. When she told me the $170 price tag I was floored but thought well it’s Rao’s and they’re high. When my wife picked it up the next Saturday she called and asked if I knew I had ordered a cake for probably 150-200 people and of course I was shocked. When she got home with it, 2 people had to carry it in and not only was the cake twice as big as she had motioned with her outstretched hands but it was also 2 layers deep. This cake meant for about 20 people was humongous!! When I asked for sheet cake I thought that it would be a single layer cake. I didn’t ask for a layered cake. And not only was this cake grossly oversized for what I asked for but even though I said it was for a graduation, they put nothing on top of the cake such as graduation decorations. And the most disappointing thing was they didn’t spell “we’re” correctly, they spelled it “were”. I blame myself for not asking more questions, especially when I got the price, but I was looking for their guidance and didn’t get it. The training is obviously lacking and needs to be much better. But the cake was good and the Port Neches Fire and Police Department were happy to get a lot of...
Read moreWe always go every now and then to get two snicker frappés and usually it’s the same lady in drive thru but I’m assuming she no longer works there. The new girl in the window had an attitude the minute we pulled up to the menu speaker as we were giving our order she was making ugly faces the entire time I believe that she is unaware that we can see her through the side window. We told her we wanted snicker frappés but she made us lattes when we corrected her at the window she began arguing with us and getting defensive as if we were attacking her when all was said is we wanted frappés instead. She continued to argue with us telling us that we said lattes and to just take them we told her no because that isn’t what we ordered so she decides to tell us, “I do not have time for this.” Slams the window and walks off. Disgusting and unprofessional behavior (it’s never that serious sweet heart) not sure why she was in the window or why she would apply for a customer oriented job with a nasty attitude instead of arguing and escalating the situation just fix it and move on with your day and if your job is so bad when all you do is take orders and hand it out FIND ANOTHER JOB THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY!!! The manager fixed the situation but never apologized to us for her actions and I’m sure she never corrected her. I was very upset and I’ve never had this experience before so I will continue to go for the Frappe but she should not be working...
