I would give 0 stars if that was on option but since its not... let me tell you my experience. My daughter (11 months old) fell off my bed onto the hardwood floor, hitting her head and twisting her neck. I rushed her to Exception since they were closest and I knew they were a fully functionally ER. I told the check in lady my baby had fallen 3 ft off the bed and she was suddenly groggy and couldn't stay awake. I do understand cases are ranked by priority but my 11 month old with a clear head and neck injury, I believed deserved quicker action than a 3 hour wait time. (There was 2 other cars in the parking lot) After the 3 hours, the doctor came in and clearly had not read her chart, as she begins to look at me and ask me how I am feeling and what hurts, as I very clearly tell her it is my daughter that is the patient and not myself. Before she even looks at my child or touches her she had made the decision that my daughter was fine and began to give us discharge instructions. I stop her and ask her why she is discharging my daughter without even looking at her and she begins to speak to us like we are bottom of the barrel and uneducated (my mom who was an RN and DON for 30 years was also in the room). My mom and I both stated our concerns with her not having any imaging or exam before being discharged. She then tells me to lay my baby on the bed so she can look at her. I have never encountered a doctor so inept. She would not hold or touch my baby, even acting scared to get near her. Looking at pupils is a large part of the exam for a head injury. My daughter was crying, clearly scared and groggy. She would not even use her hands to open my daughters eyes to look at them closely. She repeatedly asked me if my daughter had lost consciousness and continuously explained to me what "loss of consciousness" means like I had no idea what she was talking about, even though I kept telling her she was never knocked out just groggy after she hit her head and that's very unlike her. She continued to tell me my daughter was fine and did not need imaging, but then belittled me saying "well if you think she needs it, then i guess we'll do it" as she walks out of the room. My mom told me that we know what the symptoms are to look for and for us to just go home and take her somewhere that could actually treat her if she begins showing other symptoms.
The doctor then comes back and says "if you believe she has a head injury, why did you not take her to a hospital ER?" We then asked for our discharge paperwork and told the nurse we would wait up front.
The doctor then came to us a third time, and stated "well you know this isn't malpractice, her injury is just not indictive of imaging". Not one person with us had said anything about malpractice. I reminded her she never actually examined my child or even touched her and she couldn't make a decision on what was indicative or not without an exam. My mom spoke up and let the doctor know she was an RN and she didn't need to speak to us like we were stupid, and it was only then that she tried to half ass apologize and said "well I don't know why I said those things"
I have truly have never seen bed side manner as AWFUL as that doctors, and I certainly never been so talked down on for wanting to get my child examined. If go to the facility and you end up with Dr. Margarita Hammeke, especially if your child is in need of care, LEAVE. Just do yourself a favor and LEAVE quickly and...
Read moreMy first experience at Exceptional Emergency Center was great. I gave it a 5 star rating. I use them quite often because you don’t get a bill like you would at the hospital emergency room. My complaint is one doctor who is extremely rude to me. The last time I was there he blew me off about my concerns about taking all of my medications after waking up from a nap, thinking it was the next day. Everyone else was nice to me except him. They did a blood pressure test and it was fine. When he came into my room he questioned me about taking my medicines the second time in one day. When I woke up I thought it was the next day. Now I know I’m not the only that’s happened too! But he said “You never though about you sleeping for 13 hours?” I said no, it never entered my mind, because my clock showed it was 6:30 and that’s what time I normally wake up In the morning! I asked him if he thought I should have an EKG done, he said “Are you having chest pains? Or dizziness”, and I said no. Then he said “you are fine, you managed to drive yourself here!” I said okay. He said “I could go”. I got up and put my robe back on to leave and the male nurse came in and started talking to me. Then a woman who works there came into my room and told the nurse, “The doctor is in the other room listening to every word your saying, she said the doctor said she is fine and she can leave!” I thought that was Extremely Rude! Not just to me but Especially to the male nurse! There was no need to Embarrass the nurse and he shouldn’t have bee Listening to what the nurse was saying. He said nothing wrong!!! He was just doing his job and was being nice, THAT’S ALL!!! I guess the doctor wanted the nurse to be rude to me too!!!And the woman who came in my room, talked in a manner like the nurse was doing something wrong as well! I don’t Even know what her title is but she was rude too! It all made Me feel very uncomfortable and For No Reason! They get paid because of patients like me, I don’t expect to be treated badly! Actually they made my feel guilty Just for showing up there! It doesn’t matter I will NOT let THEM STOP ME FROM GOING BACK, because they get paid by my insurance company and it doesn’t cost me at all. If I feel like I Need to be seen or treated I’m not going to let them stop me but they NEED to think about WHO IS PAYING THEIR SALARIES!!!! AND THEY NEED TO BEEN NICE TO EVERYONE WHO COMES TO THE EMERGENCY CENTER! If I wasn’t concerned about all of the medication I had taken twice in one day I Wouldn’t have gone there! I Think I Made The Right Decision, Regardless of How I was treated!!!!!! THE DOCTOR NEEDS...
Read moreI am writing to express my deep disappointment with the level of care I received during my recent visit to your facility on Thursday around midnight. I presented with concerning symptoms, including shortness of breath, chest tightness, a sore throat, and productive coughing.
Upon arrival, I was seen by the triage nurse, who appropriately conducted COVID-19, flu, and strep tests. However, the care I received afterward fell far below what I expected from a medical facility that claims to offer “exceptional emergency care.” The physician entered the room briefly, stated that I had strep, and left without taking a medical history, conducting a physical examination, ordering blood work, or performing a chest X-ray—despite my respiratory symptoms. He did not listen to my breathing or allow time for any questions or concerns.
I voiced my frustration to the nurse, as I felt completely dismissed by the physician. When I explained to the discharge nurse that I could not take the prescribed medications due to severe side effects I’ve experienced in the past, it became even more apparent that the lack of proper evaluation and communication had put me at risk. Had the physician taken the time to ask even a few basic questions or review my history, this could have been avoided.
The experience left me feeling not only unheard, but genuinely concerned about the quality of care being provided. Given the circumstances, it is not surprising that I was the only patient in the facility. I will not be returning, and I strongly caution others who expect thorough and compassionate care to seek...
