Let me tell you all about my dining adventure to Casa Don Juan. There was great ventilation. There are lots of things going on from freshly cooked tortillas, people, and the food aroma. We were greeted by a hostess dressed in an attire that immediately made me think of one of my favorite artists, Freida Kahlo. The colors of the restaurant were warm and inviting. There's a bar area for folks who want to hang out there with several TVs and lots of drinks. There's a room section for large parties and a section for the other guest. Our server was nice, though he never gave us any dining suggestions at all. After this, it's a slippery slope. We are served the usual chips, salsa, and refried beans. The salsa was delicious and made fresh, not out of a can. The consistency was perfect. Not to runny and not too chunky. It had a spicy kick. The refried beans were seasoned just right. Not overbearing with salt and blended to a smooth consistency as well. We order. Enchiladas and Tamale dinner with red sauce. Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo, which is Shrimp with Garlic Sauce. What arrived was a great Enchilada and a real sorry excuse of a Tamale that had so much Masa it looked like a biscuit with a sliver of meat. With all that sauce that couldn't help it out. The Shrimp dinner would have been a winner if they didn't just load the minced Garlic on top. There was NO sauce, just garlic. To top this off, the Shrimp was still in its shell. I had to fight with it to separate. I kept using my napkin to spit out shells. It's totally awful. These meals would have been perfect if they cared, took their time, and loved the art of cooking.

Found this restaurant on Groupon and the reviews looked pretty good. We ordered Chile Verde and Carne Asada. While waiting for our meal, we were served (4) complementary flour tortillas which, had just been freshly handmade by a lady standing behind a counter in the dining area. It was apparent this was not her first time making tortillas. She was quick and her knowledge of the process was evident. Customers were welcome to walk over and observe her masterful tortilla making skills and ask questions. If there was any doubt as to the freshness of the tortillas that question was certainly answered. The Chile Verde was good but the Carne Asada lacked flavor and seasoning. The meat was a bit thinner than what I’m accustomed to but the portion size was generous. The dining area had a very authentic vibe with streamers, color patterns, and other types of art displayed throughout the restaurant. There’s a very large bar with TVs to watch sporting events and other programs while indulging in a beverage. Our server was great and had a wonderful personality. His knowledge of the menu was vast which, was greatly appreciated. The staff was very gracious and made you feel welcomed. Overall, my dining experience was good but not great. With that said, I think I’ll give this spot another try sometime in the future.

I visited today with my young daughter. What started out very well was ruined by a horrible dessert. It was so bad that my little girl wouldn't even eat it and brought my rating down all the way to 2 stars. My server was pretty good, the food is definitely not cheap, but typical for this type of restaurant. My meal with my daughter (one combo plate, a kids meal, iced tea, juice, and a terrible dessert) was about $55. Anyway, I saw "fried ice cream" on the menu and usually this is a mexican favorite so I paid the $8.50 for my daughter to have it, expecting something of decent quality. TERRIBLE! Their version is simply vanilla ice cream with soggy cereal (fruity pebbles) sprinkled on top and a ton of weird, old tasting whipped cream. My daughter took one or two bites and wouldn't touch it again. I tried to take a few bites, but it was so bad. I mentioned to the hostess that something seemed wrong and she just shrugged it off saying that's just how it is, so she didn't seem concerned. I still think something was wrong, but we'll never know. Totally ruined what would have been a decent visit. Now, we are left with that as our lasting impression so we won't be rushing back any time soon. If you give them a try, do NOT order that disgusting "fried" ice cream!

Tax evasion brings 3 years in prison for Las Vegas owner of Casa Don Juan restaurants Greg Haas 21 hours ago

Casa Don Juan in Las Vegas. (KLAS)

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas restaurant owner/operator was sentenced Thursday to more than three years in prison for tax evasion, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Raul Gil, 63, who told bookkeepers at Casa Don Juan restaurants to create false sales numbers that resulted in underreporting sales by $5.1 million from 2014 through 2018, was sentenced to 37 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

The IRS was cheated out of $1.6 million in taxes, according to a news release from the office of Jason M. Frierson, U.S. Attorney for the District of Nevada.

U.S. District Judge Andrew P. Gordon ordered Gil to pay $2,228,943.65 in restitution.

After the sales records were falsified, Gil sent them to an outside tax return preparer who prepared his federal income tax returns.

Gil pleaded guilty to tax evasion in August of 2022. At the time, he faced a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

During interviews with the IRS, Gil falsely stated that the daily cash reports and point-of-sale records were accurate. He repeated the lie to IRS-Criminal Investigation special agents, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General Stuart M. Goldberg of the Justice Department’s Tax Division, United States Attorney Jason M. Frierson for the District of Nevada, and IRS Criminal Investigations Phoenix Field Office Acting Special Agent in Charge Carissa Messick made the announcement.

The case was investigated by the IRS criminal investigations unit. Trial Attorney Thomas Flynn of the Tax Division and Assistant U.S. Attorney Tony Lopez of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada prosecuted the case.

10/23/22 drove all the way to this location because I purchased a Groupon deal on 10/7/22. At the time, the Groupon site was having an issue, however I was still able to print, but without the actual voucher code, but all other information was present. The manager wouldn't honor the Groupon! Poor restaurant management etiquette! The server was nice. Chips 'n' salsa served quickly. Had to ask for place setting. Salsa was pale and flavorless. Chile Colorado was salty and no spice whatsoever! Upon inquiring, server reply was "yes, the recipes are the same at all locations." I've been to the location on Buffalo Dr and each time the food was great and Chile Colorado was spicy nearly to the point of too hot, but delicious! He didn't know what to say. Upon bringing the manager to the table re: Groupon, she asked about the food. I mentioned the same re: the Chile Colorado. Her reply was "at this location the Chile (red sauce), isn't spicy, but the Buffalo location makes it spicy! She continued that her location makes Chile Verde (green sauce) spicy and Buffalo does not!" WOW! Why the difference if I was just told that they all follow the same format re: recipes, and why would each be the opposite of the other? I had told the server that I was married to a man of Mexican heritage and he and his family always made spicy Chile Colorado. Even in other restaurants it's always spicy hot. House Margarita out of the bar top machine, which costs cents on the dollar, served 8 oz. glass, couldn't even detect the tequila, cost $12.00!! Needless to say, but I will anyhow...we won't go back to this location or perhaps not at all because prices are ridiculous. So many places using the Covid & suupply chain as a reason to raise prices...
