I have read some of the reviews before making my decision to come, just to give it a fair shot. This mexican BBQ theme, I was curious. First at arrival we walk in the shopping Plaza storefront restaurant. It was the Togo side and you wait to be seated on the other side. Simple what I assume to be Mexican Decor, an odd mix of bench and chairs at some tables. Large space able to accommodate big groups. This evening it is only two of us on a Tuesday evening. We were sat in a short amount of time, the place wasn't very busy. What I did notice or lack of was aroma of what I would think is a heavy used smoked equipment running. I did not smell anything close to that. Therefore I had to keep in mind that this may not be the usual american concept of BBQ, so keep an open mind.We started with the tostada flight. 3 tostadas I believe chicken beef and pork, very delicious, full of flavor, and mountain of texture and flavor profiles, very well done. Not in any way a BBQ item but good.My friends burnt ends were just ok she said, I did not like them, presentation great flavor fail. Moving on to the entrée we wanted the ribs but the came back and said they were out. I didn't come here to eat BBQ chicken so my Friend had the brisket sandwich, and I had the hot link combo. To start the food came out it looked delicious and presented well, however, it also came out of the kitchen Luke warm, this is something I read in a few other reviews and I dismissed it. Do not dismiss it. There is no way that my sausage should have been Luke warm even sitting under a heat lamp it should have been hotter, my friend said her brisket was the same. Now to the flavors, there was none on the meats bland. The hot link was not a link but seemed more like Kielbasa. Brisket no flavor we both needed sauce to help along the meal. The Brussel Sprouts were ok, my friend really liked them, I prefer mine without sweet chili sauce all over it. the Mac and cheese that some say was their favorite was, I was not a fan of. I assume it's a jalapeño mac and cheese, no thank you. It's not spicy just supposed to be the flavor I quess. They provided 2 sauces on the table one is I guess the original plain BBQ sauce and the other is the hot. Didn't try the hot but the mild was nothing to jump for either. The manager came by, I assume he was the manager and asked how everything was. I told him the truth, not a fan of the macaroni and the food came out Luke warm. He said oh sorry about that perhaps the kitchen rushed the food out. Thank you for letting me know. ..Honestly on a Tuesday evening, you out of ribs and they rushing food out not heated to proper temps then what will happen on busier days. Mind you the have business people obviously like the place the Togo orders were going out while I was there. I personally am disappointed in what I consumed except the tostada flight, I can't recommend anyone go try it. For real someone sensitive could get sick from that meat not reaching the right temperatures. If the correct that issue at least, maybe some of the people could look past the lack of...
Read moreI absolutely love Humo. I’ve waited to write a review as I wanted to be sure it was consistently good. The hubby and I were pleasantly surprised when we went to a restaurant featured on TikTok that actually was as good as it looked in the video. Since then we’ve gone there for date night, family night, even ordered catering for our New Year’s Eve party.
The prices are spot on, not too expensive, and not too cheap definitely worth every penny. Even the catering experience was wonderful they provided plasticware, in addition to plates and napkins. Somebody came and set it out for us in our house and it was amazing pretty seamless. Needless to say all of our guests thought the food was amazing because we didn’t have any leftovers.
Since the first time we went, the restaurant itself has changed a little bit initially when we walked in there was nobody at the front, it initially had some odd logistics, you walk into the front door, there is a bar to your right, and then the restaurant to your left. However, the time that we first went, there was nothing to the left you had to walk further in and wait for someone to ask if you need help. our most recent visit was a few weeks ago and this was completely different. There was somebody at the podium at the front asked if you have reservations, they take you off the reservation list and then seat you. We also noticed they made some aesthetic changes to an awkward space where they work out of, the restaurant area had or has like a stage area and the seating was different the first time around but this time it’s more welcoming.
I believe it’s family, owned and operated so that makes things even better. Everything on their menu is spectacular, personally the only thing I would do would be add some Tajin to the esquite but other than that it’s definitely drool worthy. They have a variety of sauces from regular, sweet to hot. My family’s favorite is the sweet one. It goes with everything including the corn.
I’m not sure if I have any pictures but I’ll search my phone for them. Every time we go we try to save a little bit because it’s always better than next day. However, the leftovers are always first come first serve for whoever wakes up that morning lol.
Get on Yelp and make reservations more than likely there will be a wait if you don’t.
Don’t wear anything nice or bring a shirt you can throw on because it might get messy. It’s so damn good you don’t...
Read moreI hate to have to do this. I was so excited to get to finally try this spot. Expectations were very high considering all the hype. This food was just not good. I got 2 meat with 2 sides: brisket, burnt ends, mac and brusells. Also got a side of corn and the chorizo beans.
Brisket was just ok. Hardly any smoke flavor. I'm a fan of smoke flavor, so that was a miss for me. The burnt ends also lacked smoke flavor, but they were also HARD. Burnt ends are supposed to have bark all around and be super tender and these had no bark and were not tender at all. The meat was straight up hard. Made a tap sound when dropped on the counter. Hard.
Saw a bunch of people raving about the mac&cheese. Maybe I got a bad batch? Idk. It was just not good. It was bland and didn't even seem like real cheese was used. Tasted like some type of psuedo-cheese sauce was used. No green chile flavor at all. A lil bit of salt would have gone a long way. The corn was also bland. Tasted like corn had been sitting in water for a long time. Even the sweetness of the corn was non-existent. Just bland.
In a few spots on the menu, it says chorizo baked beans, but in other spots it says chorizo refried beans. Which is it? Are they chorizo refried baked beans? If so, I didn't get much baked bean flavor. And the flavor that was in the beans wasn't tasty. Mostly just picked the chorizo and cheese off the top. The brussel sprouts were ok, but also tasted a bit waterlogged.
The best part of everything I received was the sauces. The OG sauce was super tasty with just the right amount of spice. The spicy sauce has a great kick and tang that was also super tasty. The sweet sauce was perfectly seasoned with the right amount of sweetness. Combining one sweet and one spicy was money and definitely made the meat more palatable.
The value is decent. Decent portions for the price. This was a takeout order and was ready super quick which was great. Overall, the taste on the actual food was less than....
