We should've known when we realized it was INSIDE City National Park (the arena) near downtown Summerlin that it would be novelty food at best. The menu seemed really well put together with interesting options and seasonal fare, so we decided to give it a shot. We tried a wide range of food while we were there because everything looked and sounded good.
We got the chicken chili, which had no flavor and tasted like it came out of a can. It was basically a bowl of chili powder and was somehow dry while being chili? And they served it with a bread stick? The reuben had very little meat and the coleslaw on it was super runny and took over the taste of the sandwich, making it soggy. The Prospector burger (basic cheeseburger) was bland and overcooked, they didn't even bother to ask for our preferred doneness. Charged for a side of ranch to go with the fries, too. Lastly, the Thai Pie pizza. With so many ingredients on this pie you'd expect some flavor, but like everything else, it was practically tasteless. You can tell the original crust might hold its own if any of the toppings had any merit.
Don't waste your time unless you're at the arena for some reason and even then, there's PLENTY of other places just across the street in Downtown Summerlin that blow this place out of the water in price and quality of food. Sorry. The ONLY redeeming thing was that you could watch the ice arenas on either side so at least you had something to entertain you besides the utterly...
Read more"This place is inside a hockey practice arena. How good could it really be?" I though to myself. Well, I was blown away. If anything, I'm mad at myself for having gone to City National Arena so many times and NOT eating there. So, I figured the food at MacKenzie River would be similar to an Applebee's or even Chili's. Boy, was I wrong! Everything we ordered was off-the-charts delicious. I mean this place is top-notch. For starters, we ordered the Cowboy Nachos with pulled pork. We were worried that one order wouldn't be enough for our hungry party of 6......until our server walked out with this heaping pile of nachos with just the right mix of pulled pork, cheese, beans and all the other goodness. These nachos were the real deal and one serving was PLENTY for all of us. My wife ordered the Willow Creek sandwich (smoked turkey and bacon) and loved it. She was especially impressed by the delicious bread it came on. I ordered the Stockman pizza (steak strips, pepperoni, bacon and sausage) and I'm not exaggerating when I say it's now one of my favorite pizzas. Something about the sourdough crust just worked wonders for me. I highly recommend it. My kids ordered a cheeseburger and mini corn dogs and loved their food also. This place is fantastic to hit up before/after a skate or hockey practice, but it's also a great place to head to with a group of friends for a night out. I can't...
Read moreWe are from Montana and have eaten at Mackenzie River 50+ times in 5 locations in Montana and it’s always been awesome.
We were so excited to see one open in Las Vegas where we live now. We walked in with our 2 year and waited for a couple minutes without even being acknowledged. We finally caught the attention of a waitress cleaning a table and she just hollers sit anywhere...
After walking around to try to find a low top table I asked the waitress walking by if they had any high chairs for our son. She replied “maybe, it’s pretty busy here, you’ll just have to look around” then proceeded to walk away . At this point we decided we didn’t even want to eat here anymore.
The service in Montana locations has always been a 9/10 or 10/10 but here in Vegas it was at best a 1/10. I’m a little afraid to try the food because I’m guessing it won’t even compare to the Real Mackenzie River pizza in Montana.
The owners and managers should honesty be a little ashamed of reputation this location is giving them. We proceeded to go up the road to BJ’s and have a great pizza while watching the Golden knights game on tv just like we had planned, much better experience as we...
