Update 3/2024: Current lucky charms flavor is really good. Also they did really well with the cereal milk ice cream flavor that’s in all the current flavors. Employees still really nice!
Beautiful space, very nice employees, but just not that exciting. I didn't stay to try every flavor so maybe I missed what makes this place so great.
I tried what I thought was a pretty straightforward ice cream flavor, and it just didn't do much for me. I usually eat extremely high quality, organic, grass fed dairy products so "conventional" dairy doesn't impress me a lot, no matter how it's flavored.
I tried a coconut-based ice cream (some kind of mint chip) that was fine, just nothing to write home about. I didn't even feel like finishing it.
I think this place is overblown. I think most people don't realize how delicious high quality dairy is, so they don't realize that this is just okay. It's not worth devoting an instagram account or TikTok trend to. But I guess that just means I'm a snob or out of touch. But no one is selling high quality ice cream in an ice cream shop these days, so I can't fault salt and straw.
I'll likely go in when it's not busy one day and try all the flavors. Maybe something I missed will impress me more. And regardless, I'll still get ice cream here sometimes for the convenience of it's location near other places I like to frequent. The building and employees make it worth eating reasonably good ice cream sometimes just for the experience of grabbing it when I'm...
Read moreI honestly can’t recommend Salt & Straw to anyone.
For most of my life, ice cream was the reward at the end of a long week, the celebration of a good day, the comfort on a hard one. Every weekend, I looked forward to it. I cherished the familiar flavors, the little rituals, the joy in every scoop.
But then I went to Salt & Straw and they destroyed that for me. I’ve walked into the same shops I once loved, hoping to feel what I used to feel, only to leave empty. The flavors that once thrilled me now taste lifeless. The textures feel thin. It’s as if every other cone, pint, and sundae in the world has lost its soul.
I’ve tried to force myself to forget. I’ve ordered my old favorites, sat down, and pretended. But each bite is a reminder of what I’ve lost. Ice cream, my favorite go to treat, is gone to me now.
And as I write this, I am sitting in a Cold Stone Creamery, 400 miles from the nearest Salt & Straw. The room hums with laughter, children press their faces against the glass, and spoons scrape against bowls. But for me, there is only absence. I taste nothing but disappointment. What was once comfort is now grief.
So I urge you: if you still want to love ice cream in all its ordinary forms, stay away from Salt & Straw. Please. Keep your innocence. Protect your joy.
Because once you’ve tasted Salt & Straw, you will understand what I now know: the only ice cream worth having...

They offer free samples but one of the best things about their samples is you can have as many as you like but each one uses a metal spoon so there is no waste. You just drop the spoon in a slot and it gets washed.
I only tried 3 samples since there was a line of people and I didn't want to hold up the line. I will be back at a slower time so I can try more flavors.
For my scoops I decided on Chocolate Gooey Brownie and Pear & Blue Cheese. Just as I got my cup I remembered a flavor I had to try, Strawberry Honey Balsamic w| Black Pepper. This was incredible and blew me away. Absolutely my favorite flavor and I am a big chocolate person. Too bad I already had my cup or I would have ordered it. The next time I am here though I will probably buy a pint of it.
The ice cream is some of the best I have eaten, rich and creamy and not overly sweet. Pear & Blue Cheese might sound strange but it really pairs well together. It complemented the Chocolate Gooey Brownie.
I am definitely coming back to work my way though all of...
