I have been to Urth Caffe in LAX before. This was my first time ordering food. I try to eat as clean as possible, so the list of organic options are great! I ordered the huveos Rancheros, French toast, mocha mint, and a plain latte with maple syrup. When I received my latte I could tell right away it was not maple syrup. Tasted like table syrup or maple flavoring. Chocked it up to a misunderstanding, and waitied for my food. My food came in a reasonable time but my companions food came after I was finished. It was the wrong French toast, we ordered plain French toast but we were given the stuffed French toast. I didn't realize at first because I had to look at the menu again. I quickly tasted the maple syrup and to my horror I could tell it was table syrup and not pure maple syrup which is advertised. Table syrup contains corn syrup. I asked the waiter of he can make sure it doesn't have corn syrup. He came with a completely different container and said sorry you were given the wrong syrup. I asked what do you use the table syrup for? He said I am not sure. So I went to talk to the manager, she was very very nice! Nothing against her. She said she would refund me everything. I did not want that I just wanted honesty. She said the kitchen manager was delivered the wrong syrup an was using it up. I said that is horrible, your prices reflect pure maple syrup. Some people can have corn syrup allergies, my nephew is allergic to corn syrup. I just try to stay away from it. Like I said the manager was very sweet an it was the kitchen manager who decided it was better to lie and serve cheap syrup instead of what is advertised. Could it not have been returned? I just hope Urth Caffe is not in the habit of serving lies. Cracker barrell for one changed their recipe for maple syrup and cut it with corn syrup. I hope this is not the case here. I will return and find out if it is real or fake. Besides that delicious food, great wait staff and sweet drink manager. Thank you I have included the real maple syrup they are supposed to serve. They did have it available right after I asked for it.
Above is my first visit. I went again 4 mos later with my same friend. Same thing happened! I was given table syrup again. Twice before the real syrup came out. Will the real syrup please stand up! One worker said this is the only syrup we have. I grabbed a menu and said that it says PURE MAPLE SYRUP. He finally came out with the real stuff. The manager apologized but didnt give me the “we’re trying to use up all our syrups schtick.” He said we have both syrups, and pure is only for the kitchen. My receipt says breakfast side of maple syrup for 1.10. I asked do I need to wink in order to get the real pure maple syrup. My nephew is allergic to corn syrup which is in the one they are serving. This restaurant is completely scamming people and are ok with it. It claims to be a somewhat healthy place. The prices reflect it. So why am I getting cheap syrup for 1.10 up-charge. So weird people cannot tell the difference but God forbid they have a corn allergy. Maybe add it to the allergy list "you may get pure maple syrup, you may not". If I go get something unhealthy typically I know the ingredients, and I’m expecting it. Here I am expecting an healthier option. The female drink manager from the first visit was so kind and concerned this happened. The actual manager was more upset he got caught. He buys...
Read moreOne huge issue I have as a Celiac is companies using my autoimmune disease to market products to orthorexics and ignorant people who wrongly assume "gluten-free" means "healthy" while simultaneously leaving celiacs like me unable to safely eat.
With the prevalence of online food ordering apps, it's so dangerous for companies to advertise their product as "gluten-free" while simultaneously taking zero precautions to make sure that food is actually gluten-free and uncontaminated.
If a friend knows you must eat gluten-free, they might pick this up for you, thinking that it's safe because it comes marked from a legitimate "crunchy" business. Purchasing on a food app, celiacs might wrongly assume the food is safe to consume because the business is advertising it as "gluten-free."
Why do corporate chain restaurants not understand cross-contamination when it comes to gluten? At this location , the marked "gluten-free" muffins are on the same plate and touching gluten-containing muffins! As a Celiac, I can't spend money on contaminated food. One crumb of gluten can cause intestinal bleeding. Celiac disease is not a wheat allergy, it's an autoimmune disease and the only treatment is eating 100% gluten-free.
Are businesses so cheap that they can't afford a separate plate with cover and new tongs for the gluten-free muffins?
I can't imagine that restaurants would put bacon on the same display plate as tofu marked as "vegan." I can't imagine they'd use verbiage to denote that their product is "shellfish free" and put it on the same plate as lobster claws. That's the equivalent of putting gluten and gluten-free muffins on the same plate in a display case.
You wouldn't market a product as "diabetic-safe" and make it where it was only safe for dieters, not actual diabetics.
"Gluten-free" is a term that celiacs rely on to find safe to consume food, not a marketing term to carelessly slap on products without care to cross-contamination.
Please either sell gluten-free products responsibly, or stop marketing them as such.
(Purchased 1 Spanish latte, hot and 1 Spanish latte granita. We sat outside because it was so busy.)

Today was my first time trying this Urth caffe and I really thoroughly enjoyed it! The vibe in the café is very trendy and sophisticated, plus it’s nicely decorated. There were lots of gorgeous people there- I could sense that some worked in the surrounding offices, while others were just visiting, as we were. I really like the area that this particular Urth caffe is located- not far from IKEA, approximately Sunset and Durango; it also happens to be very up-and-coming: new places are popping up constantly! I’m not sure of the schedule or timing for it, but the newest station casino will be built right across the street! The food and coffee were both delicious, as were the desserts we had. Sadly, in our haste to try our beautiful, delicious looking treats, I actually forgot to take a photo of them. We sampled the New York cheesecake and the Matcha tiramisu… Both were yummy! For breakfast each of us had the eggs Benedict Canyon with salmon ( ham was the other option) on the latke ( brioche or ciabatta were the other two options). The breakfasts came with a gorgeous little organic mixed green salad with Asian pear, and it was all so delicious. I forgot to mention that the coffee was absolutely fantastic! My BFF had a traditional latte and I had a decaf. Both were with low-fat milk and were absolutely incredible. Another thing I should point out- They have an app where you can order and pay for your food, then pick it up. The parking garage was very easy to navigate as well. I took a ticket when I drove in ( garage 1 is closest to Urth) and then I noticed that it said that you can pay by text. I did that just as I was ready to leave, and it was soooo easy. You’ll get a bar code to scan on your way out. Go try...
