– Verify Carryout Orders!
As someone originally from New Albany, I grew up loving Pizza King. It’s been a long-time favorite of mine and my family’s — hands down one of the best pizzas around. Although we now live about 30 minutes away, we still make the drive frequently for carryout because it’s been worth it — until recently.
For dine-in experiences, this location is great for families with small children. The iconic train that delivers drinks to your table makes for a fun and memorable dinner out.
However, if you’re getting carryout, be cautious and always check your order before leaving.
Pizza King used to open the boxes and present your pizzas before handing them over — a great customer service habit that seems to have fallen by the wayside. On more than one occasion now, we’ve arrived home only to find that our pizzas were made incorrectly.
Today was particularly frustrating. We always request no onions due to dietary issues. When I placed the order by phone, I repeated “no onions” three separate times, and the staff member taking the order repeated it back to me. Yet, when I picked up the order and checked the first box in the car — sure enough — onions.
I brought the pizza back inside and checked the remaining boxes (those were made correctly). To their credit, a new pizza was made promptly and correctly. But that’s where the good part of the service ends.
Unfortunately, the service overall was subpar for several reasons: • No apology was offered — not even a simple acknowledgment that a mistake had been made. Owning the error and offering a quick “Sorry about that!” would have gone a long way in making me feel valued as a customer. • The staff appeared very young (teens), with 8–10 gathered around the kitchen and pickup area, more focused on chatting with each other and their phones than taking care of customers. • While waiting for my corrected order, I watched another customer stand unacknowledged at the counter for an uncomfortably long time — as one staff member leaned on the counter, absorbed in his phone. • The host stand was also unattended, with the staff member there too distracted by their phone to greet or acknowledge incoming guests.
Experiences like this are exactly why people hesitate to tip on carryout orders. I regret leaving a tip today and honestly wish I had asked for it back.
It’s sad to say, but after many years of being a loyal Pizza King fan, it may be a while before I return. Time to explore other options — hopefully with better attention to...
Read moreThey used to be the best pizza around. As time has went on, and they have made themselves a name, the less they care about the customer. They've closed for places in order to make their "place" a copy of Chucky Cheese. In doing that, they've forgot about us, "customers" whereas Chucky Cheese hasn't. They started by removing store's. Then expanding their menu. Their menu includes just about anything. Problem with that is they've lost focus on who made them who they are. CUSTOMERS! Their pizza had a light cover in pizza sauce. Light cover. Even lighter covering in cheese. They used to like to stop short of a inch of the crust. You'll wait for it and then when you get it, they'll be like, we could fix it and you'll say, no I don't want to wait another 25 minutes, but be nice if you talked to your people and told them to take the toppings to the crust, please. Then, as time has progressed they have became even more slack. Raised their price to $23 and some change, for one topping, while leaving the outter crust pizza with no topping, but marinara, and some light cheese. Most definitely no topping though. They continue to play the same game with, open and check it before you go. You do. You notice. You think I hate to say anything so next time it will be two pieces all the way around. You know they see it too. To hard to not. You show it to them and say here I'll let you have a look at it. They barely even acknowledge while looking and then flipping it back around as they close the box, have a nice evening. I'll talk to them about it. Without a word between you. You know they aren't going to do anything. Long as we the consumer continue to patronize them, while they charge a fortune, for a one topping half the pizza covered and we allow. Why should they change anything. They'll reap the rewards until there are no more people. Then they'll try and revamp. This is a owner operated business. Not a compliment that hat no clue. The owners with there so they know they aren't topping the pics as should. They know they charge out of this world prices. But hey why not? We paying it and being ripped at the same time. Stop allowing them to...
Read moreWe have been coming here for five years now and our son is in love with this place. However because of a crooked owner who cares more about two dollars than his customer we will not return.
We got there and ordered an order of three breadsticks as we have for five years. The server brought us three full orders but quickly apologized for the error on her end. She said to keep two of them, she would charge us for one of them and correct the bill. Wonderful service on Sydney's end. At the end of the meal she brought us out the check which had two breadsticks on it and she said the manager rang it on this way to make it cheaper. I quickly did the math and it was $2.50 more this way. She quickly agreed and said she would fix it.
An older man approached five minutes later. He aggressively said this was our fault for not knowing how to order and he refused to change anything on the bill. In awe we looked at him in disbelief and said you are serious right now. He said yes I am the owner and laughed in our face as he walked away. In the distance he said you are paying for this and I a, not changing it. I was beyond angry as this was in front of my children.....The server approached sheepishly and looked mortified. She said I'm so sorry. I tried to make this right and he refused my request. I told her we were not upset with her and asked her how she could work for such a nasty man.
My advice is to get over the train that lures families here and spend your money with someone who will appreciate your business. This man is a terrible person who needs his actions exposed. Thank you for...
