Only my second visit to Famous Restaurant but sadly I was disapointed...I ordered the chicken slouvak-....chicken pita fajita basically...and it wasn't very good and it was way too expensive...I would've paid 6 maybe 7 dollars for this dish...two tiny blah pita bread cups and some blah chicken and a little veggie salad and a cup of Zaki Zuki Ziki- whatever..sauce..and one little block of cheese to split on it all...im still not sure about the chicken..whether it was real or manufactured...and everything was fair..cool veggies and the sauce was a little bland but seemed healthy..sour cream and herbs..not much to it but yeah that's it...at the end I ran out of the tiny pita..and not because there was so much meat I couldn't eat it all..but because they are just Itty bitty...and I asked the waitress for a slice of bread...now I was impressed with Famous' bread..its delicious! Well..she brought me a gyro bread...and it was yummy!! Soft and warm and made me very disappointed that I didn't get something this pleasant on my own dish. Thier spaghetti...is a no...I still have yet to have spaghetti at a restaurant that is even close to real homemade spaghetti...at all...the pizza I think is a happy medium for me..lots of vegetable choices and great names like "The Olympian"..make me happy and interested in thier business...the bakery is great but I'd like to see more of the bread they make coming and going..its super delicious! Just give me a bowl of olives and a loaf of bread and a chunk of salami next time...im skipping the funky fancy named stuff from now on..pizza and bread is all I want from Famous...the rest shall remain...
Read moreThe food is delicious and wait staff is friendly. The bakery has made this place my favorite stop in New Bern. Knew I'd be in town today, so for the past 2 days I've been so excited looking forward to a particular cupcake they sell (chai cinnamon, PLEASE try!!! Best EVER.). Their cookies and breads and flourless brownie and so many others are also amazing. When I was pregnant with my son, the pepper steak and mushroom sub was one of my biggest cravings. It's still amazing to this day. Though I recommend you pay extra for their steak fries instead of just getting the chips that come with the meal. Also today, one of the waitresses brought a cookie over for my toddler daughter (asked me first and I said it was fine) from the bakery. So sweet!!! Love this place!
Updated 12/23/21 at Google's request: I was showing someone around New Bern on Saturday, and there was a long wait where we'd gone to eat. He was hungry so I mentioned Famous. He had never been. He absolutely loved it, could not stop raving about it, even stopped the the waitress to tell her how impressed he was. He got the gyro platter, I got a traditional gyro, and we split spanakopita and hummus--all fantastic!! The bakery closed while we were paying, but they said they'd walk us back there. So one of the employees walked with us to the bakery and let us pick out desserts. He was so kind. Everyone there always is. It was the perfect addition to an amazing evening. After many years of going there, it's consistently amazing and I can't say enough good things...
Read moreI’ve had issues with customer service all but the first time I’ve come in. I’ve placed two different togo orders since the first time we sat in. The first time we ate there, the spaghetti was wonderful. I got a burger and it was the worst burger I have ever had. The waitress offered to take it off the ticket and we said no it was okay. She gave us a free piece of cake and two sweet rolls to take home for it. She was a wonderful server. It did take them about 15 minutes to acknowledge us though. The first togo order I got was an Italian sub. Called and placed the order. They were not friendly on the phone, didn’t even get my name or say goodbye. Just hung up on me. Fine whatever. The sub wasn’t that great. Thursday, I did a togo order of a gyro with fries and an extra side of taziki sauce. They charge me 3$ for the extra sauce and charged me 4$ for the fries. Well I got there and they had given my food away. So I had to wait another 15 minutes for my food. Not the worst thing, they were busy. (The young boy behind the counter couldn’t keep up with answering all the phones and cashing people out. People were getting upset) I got my order. Took it home and this is what it looked like. Wilted lettuce. No sauce whatsoever. It was not good. I had to pick it all off. I’m thankful I got my 3$ sauce so I had sauce to put on it. Will not be coming back. Tried three times and every time was...
