While vacationing in Canyon Lakes, my husband and I were able to stumble upon this highly prestigious establishment by taking to Yelp. Because of this, we had had an amazing seafood dining experience. In my opinion, McAdoo's is an elegant, classy, and expensive restaurant. If you're thinking of dining here, plan to dress chic or formal as it is a very classy place. Also, make a reservation before you arrive. A fun fact about this establishment is that it was previously a post office before it became McAdoo's! How cool is that? The exterior of the building continues to have attributes of a post office. Our server's name was Pat. He did not waste any time presenting himself to us. He introduced himself with such professionalism and intelligence, making us feel so comfortable and welcomed. He immediately took our drinks and appetizer orders. I ordered their chargrilled oysters and hubby ordered their fried coconut shrimp. Both appetizers were absolutely delicious and delectable. For my drink I ordered a Postmaster Hurricane and hubby ordered the Shiner Bock Draft. We were both pleased with our drinks as they were served at a nice cold temperature. The Postmaster Hurricane is a hurricane for real. I felt like I had been hit by one after consuming it! It was seriously that good. It didn't taste strong while I was sipping it, but it slowly crept up on me. Furthermore, for our main courses, I ordered the Mahi Mahi Boudreaux with crab fried rice and hubby ordered the Redfish Pontchartrain. The Mahi Mahi Boudreaux is originally served with dirty rice. However, I really wanted to try their crab fried rice because of all of the delicious looking photos that I had previously saw on Yelp of other patrons crab fried rice. So, I asked Pat if I could substitute the dirty rice for crab rice instead. Luckily, my server said that they could definitely accommodate my request. It was absolutely delicious paired with the Mahi Mahi which was topped with shrimp, crawfish, mushrooms, and avocado in a creamy wine sauce. The Mahi Mahi was moist, tender, and succulent. The avocado and wine sauce were amazingly divine. I ate every drop of food that was on my plate. My hubby enjoyed his meal just as much as I did, if not more. The Redfish Pontchartrain consisted of blackened redfish filet topped with sautéed shrimp, and crab meat in a brown buttery wine sauce, served with dirty rice. However, my hubby opted out of the dirty rice and asked for white rice instead. He said that the redfish was superbly cooked and that the white rice was a perfect match with the meal. Because of the brown buttery wine sauce, the white rice had a nice rich flavor. He was surprised to find out that the food was not salty like other establishments such as Pappadeaux's in which our honest opinion is that they go overboard with the salt. Well, not at McAdoo's. The chefs know exactly what they're doing in the kitchen. In conclusion, our overall dining experience was amazing. The ambience is relaxing with low dim lighting and soulful tunes from the 60's and 70's playing at a moderate level. The customer service is immaculate. The staff were very professional and friendly. I cannot find any fault in this establishment. The food was exquisite and delectable from the drinks, to the appetizers, and to the main courses. My husband and I both agree that the food was flavorful without being overly seasoned. Everything was perfect; not too salty, but just the right amount. Our only complaint is that there should be a McAdoo's located in Houston, Texas as well so that we can patronize more, lol. I rated them at five stars for great professionalism, amazing chefs, cleanliness, the relaxing ambience, and friendly customer service. I will be going back next time I am in Canyon...
Read moreFirst time for my birthday (which is Valentine’s Day) and the food was delicious! Started with the salmon wonton nachos which were very messy and difficult to eat but so worth it. For entrees I got the Chilean sea bass, the fried rice on the plate was amazing, the carrots were cooked well, and the fish was beautifully cooked. Husband got the Mardi Gras fish which he enjoyed. We ordered hush puppies when our entrees arrived which were the best hush puppies I’ve ever had. Crème brûlée was pretty good with some of the sugar being a little too charred but I enjoyed it. The server was super nice and friendly but the amount we saw of him was the bare minimum. I thought he might just be over burdened by the amount of tables he had, which if contained to the “post office” room we were in ourselves that he was splitting with another man, would be 5 tables for each. However, that theory only made sense if he was there in the room, which he was not physically present for 90% of our hour+ experience. Maybe he was off running food or still working but his main job was making sure his tables needs were met in a timely manner and ours were not. We sat without water for over five minutes. For some reason we were the only table they did not give bread shortly after sitting and we had to ask for it after being there for twenty minutes. I also longed for a birthday candle in my dessert since I had seen pictures of desserts with candles in the google photos but alas, that did not happen. I also observed three manager men in suits move throughout the restaurant the entire time and interact with almost every table but us. As a partially neglected table of first timers including myself on my birthday it left us leaving...
Read moreThis restaurant is simply amazing. It reminds me of a restaurant called Pappadeaux’s, when it first started. This location is in the beautiful town of New Braunfels. Locate it in a historic post office building. Upon walking in you are greeted with a beautiful nostalgic atmosphere. The bar area is excellent. The only thing I would change about the bar area is the happy hour, it ends at 6 o’clock. If it were me in my restaurant, I would happy hour at seven. So let’s talk about the delicious dishes they serve there. Let me start by saying if you’re lucky enough to make the happy hour, that menu alone is outstanding. To me the best thing on that menu is the salmon nachos and the boil. The drinks offered on the happy hour. Menu are great as well. You do have a choice of dining indoors or going out to the beautiful patio area, where are you sometimes find amazing bands playing there. Do yourself a favor and ask for the complementary bread. It is delicious. My favorite on the menu is the fried fish and fried shrimp. although you will not be disappointed by any choice, you may make from this delicious array of food. Desserts, OMG! I don’t know who makes the blueberry lavender cheesecake or the Keylime pie, those two desserts are my favorites. Very decadent and absolutely amazing! If you live anywhere near San Antonio or Austin, this is worth a special trip to visit. Fortunately for me, I live less than 5 miles from this place lol. But if I didn’t, I would definitely make the drive. You’re gonna love the staff. They are...
