This restaurant is a true culinary gem. The ambiance is an experience in itself: elegance blends with a welcoming and surprisingly tranquil atmosphere, ideal for a relaxing evening. The soft lighting creates an intimate aura, while the carefully selected background music accompanies the conversation without ever overpowering it. For sports enthusiasts, discreetly placed TVs offer the possibility to follow major events, without disturbing the overall atmosphere. The service is impeccable: the waiters demonstrate a rare attention to customers' needs, anticipating every desire with courtesy and professionalism. The menu is a real journey through unique and refined flavors, where each dish is a work of art. To start, we opted for a tomato soup and a ricotta flan. I confess I initially had some doubts about the apparent simplicity of these choices, but I was quickly proven wrong by their extraordinary goodness. The tomato soup, velvety and juicy, had a perfect texture and an intense flavor that won me over at the first taste. The ricotta flan, on the other hand, was a real explosion of flavor: the delicacy of the ricotta blended perfectly with a touch of lemon that enhanced its freshness. For the main course, we chose a salmon fillet, a dish that proved to be a masterpiece of balance and flavors. The cooking was, of course, impeccable, but what literally captivated me was the golden and crispy crust, cooked to perfection: a true delight that I usually tend to discard, but which in this case I devoured with enthusiasm. To conclude on a sweet note, I had the pleasure of tasting the pot de crème and the apple doughnuts. The pot de crème, creamy and enveloping, was a triumph of flavor that made me melt with pleasure. The apple doughnuts, warm and fragrant, were a perfect combination of the sweetness of apples and the crispness of the batter. An...
Read moreThis could be a great restaurant, and when it started it was a very good one, but it's become a waste of time and money. Over the past year and half, I had one mediocre dinner and one disappointing dinner, but it was bunch today that sealed the deal. For starters, the menu bore no connection to the brunch menu on their website: the web menu looked diverse and interesting, the menu they handed out looked like a short diner menu (which is great at a diner, but not at an expensive restaurant). The table was dirty. When our waitress arrived, right in front of us she picked up the salt and pepper shakers to cover part of the mess. When we then gently asked her, the next time she came back, to clean the table, she obliged by grabbing a rag and knocking the pieces of food to the floor near our feet. Our water was a half-filled room-temperature bottle grabbed from a nearby table. My wife ordered avocado toast. It looked and tasted like it was made by slabbing one of those avocado squeeze packs you can get at Costco onto a piece of stale sourdough. I ordered ricotta pancakes, which contained no hint of ricotta; they seemed to be the basic foodservice mix pancakes you can find at a college cafeteria. It's a beautiful space, and I'd rate the ambience higher, but it's connected to a hotel, and the restaurant apparently doesn't mind people coming there in their pajamas from the elevator (at 11am). Honestly, you'd do just about as well at the free breakfast buffet at a highway LaQuinta. But for what it's worth, if you're looking for a swank bar after a show at Yale Rep, it's a nice nighttime place to...
Read moreI was traveling on my own through New Haven and wanted to enjoy a nice meal on my last night. I’ll say at first I wasn’t really feeling it because I was seated at the bar (I had choose the spot myself in my reservation on OpenTable, when I arrived asked if I could be seated elsewhere, but they were booked so no worries…but there were empty tables that remained empty the entire time I was there (1.5 hours). I understand having empty tables because of COVID and being shortstaffed but they were not allowing walk ins so I wasn’t really adding to the overall count of people).
I saw that the menu offered a glass and a half of wine which I was thrilled about - it was just me so I wasn’t into ordering a bottle but they do have incredible selection. It’s not the amount of wine it’s the type of wine they offer which I appreciate. Clearly shortstaffed, the manager was behind the bar, they were so friendly and personable. It’s a tough time for restaurants and they are doing incredible!
I ordered the risotto for dinner and it was creamy and filling (but not overdone). It was a bit salty for my preference (and I usually like salt!). I probably wouldn’t order it again there because of the salt and the price. Also, it comes with brussles sprouts but I would have loved more next time, just felt like it was some flakes and I expected full sprouts.
This would be nice for a pre or post dinner drink with a date or a friend.
