Pokémoto - New Haven (Chapel) — Restaurant in New Haven

The service was horrible, I went in to get 2 regular bowls for dinner and noticed they were low on some items but proceeded to order because they may have it in the back. I let the girl know that the bowls were going to be similar, with the exception of the sauces. She ran out of the shrimp for 1 of the bowls, so she went and got another container of shrimp with the shell on. I explained to her that you can't service that because they aren't peeled. This is supposed to be ready to eat. She asked if I wanted them, and I said no, so she went back to the freezer, pulled out frozen peeled shrimp, put them in a container, and proceeded to give me those. They were frozen! She didn't seem to understand that this was ready to eat food, meaning I was consuming it within 10 min, so I told her to forget the shrimp and just give me 2 scoops of tuna instead.

We get to the sauce and toppings and she mixes the first bowl and put it in top, then she does the second bowl and puts it on top of the first bowl and then tried to scrap it back into the mixing bowl to put on the second bowl. She ended up making me another bowl all over again in which I paid (but atleast one should've been free based on the time and issues that occurred) but her lack of training and knowledge of the food is disturbing and can potentially get someone sick. Something must’ve been going on here/with the staff as the service was atrocious.

I was visiting from out of town and on Friday April 8th around 6pm walked in to get poke. There were two staff members and one was helping a client (two clients in the establishment before me) while the other staff was cleaning the food bins. I assumed the staff cleaning would stop to serve, I was incorrect. She continued to clean all of the trays, slowly, painfully for the next 20+ min as I stood there. She didn’t say a single word and left her colleague to be the only one serving.

Three other people came in after me and two left because the wait time was so long. The person in front of me was indecisive which didn’t help the situation but I personally waited upwards of 20 min. The man who helped me was great and doing his best but his “cleaning” colleague left me speechless. I literally watched the business lose customers because of her.

Actual food was delicious and reasonably priced with loads of toppings. I’ll be back when I’m there next but will check to see who is working the counter first.

Very disappointing that the food at this location doesn’t meet the same high expectations as their White plains, NY location.

I alway visit the White Plains location and tonight I am visiting a friend in CT and highly recommended we order from this restaurant. I was so embarrassed when the food arrived.

The sushi rice bowl was so messy. Seems like everything was just thrown in the bowl. The sauce was at the bottom being socked up by the rice, making it mush. The miso soup had huge chunks of tofu along with huge rounds of scallion including the end tip with the roots.
