When I say I LOVE this place, I really do mean it. To start off, the staff working there are passionate and have a very positive vibe. Always smiling and welcoming, and as I started coming here more often, I felt very welcomed by their energy. They say things like "appreciate you" and as someone that has difficulty with self worth, I can say that means a lot to me. Their foods are DELICIOUS, they serve baked goods such as brownies, cookies, and muffins (love the Blueberry muffin!). They also serve fresh fruit and yogurt. I haven't tried it yet but I am aware that they serve salads, soups, and BLT sandwiches. I am also aware that they have vegan options, for both drinks and foods. They serve coffee and tea with lots of options. The seating is comfortable, although I wouldn't say very spacious but personally that's not a worry of mine because they have outdoor seating as well if you're coming over with more than three people. I go there by myself and sit at the window seats and read my book. Oh yes, before I forget I do stay here to read my books for HOURS, and they never complain or ask me to leave. They also do sell books, which is usually $4.95 for most books that I have checked out. I have bought a book with an original price of $25 and ended up buying it for $4.95. The books are well taken care of. Their place is clean, and the staff wipe the tables every hour or so. I just love this place so much, gives me the time and place to do my thing while everyone else does their own. This place is definitely my...
Read moreBook Trader Cafe, nestled on Chapel Street near Yale's art and architecture schools, is a charming spot that's equal parts bookshop and cafe. The moment you step inside, you're greeted by towering shelves packed with an impressive array of tomes - a bibliophile's dream come true.
The dim lighting lends a cosy atmosphere, perfect for losing oneself in a good read, or charming a sceptical date. There's no shortage of seating, with the cafeteria-style arrangement offering ample space for patrons to sprawl out with their books and laptops.
One of the cafe's strong suits is its extended hours, making it a favourite haunt for night owls and early birds alike. The prices are quite reasonable, especially considering its prime retail location.
The decor could be described as shabby chic, with well-worn furnishings that add to the overall bohemian vibe. It's the sort of place where you wouldn't feel out of place curling up in an armchair for hours on end.
While the Americanos are rather middling, the cafe redeems itself with a diverse selection of cold beverages. From iced coffees to refreshing kombuchas, there's something to quench most every reasonable thirst.
All in all, Book Trader Cafe is a delightful little nook that captures the essence of New Haven's academic roots. It's the ideal spot for bookworms and coffee lovers alike, provided they're not too fussed about...
Read moreI like this cafe with it's selections of affordable prices for mostly, gently used, and some new books, CDs, and movies, ranging from fiction to nonfiction, including literature, reference, Caribbean, Native American, and Black/ African American. In my experience, I notice that many Black American/African books go out of print, mostly. So, I try my best to purchase the selections whenever I can I still have books from college from over 20 years ago! My daughter is an African American Studies major, and is a culinary chef in the making, so this will one of the place where I will be making many printed book purchases. This place has treasures of fiction and nonfiction books for one to build a personal print library. For those of us who still love to hold a book, read a book, this is the place to browse and buy gently used and new books and CDs at affordable price. Also, the cafe lingers in the morning with breakfast from the kitchen including toasted bagels and varieties of hot tea. There is an ample, cozy seating area to eat, read, and relax with your new finds from the bookstore. It's really a relaxing environment. Also, there is a buyer at the store who consigns books,...
