Whalley Pizza — Restaurant in New Haven

Stopped by here with friends after a dance recital yesterday I have not been in here in years was disappointed about the wait and customer service so when we got there in Sunday June 25, 2017 about 315-330pn there were only two ladies there eating halfway through their meals. When we finally orders the waitress started out good one person people came out before everyone else I order my a small mushroom, spinach and sausage pizza my friend recommended to be good so did less than 5 mins after hers. Hers came I waited literally 30-35 mins additional after hers we talked one find her her hamburger atex as slow as possible, the one with the pizza normally doesn't rush her food she was four in we about to go. Two sets of people came in after ordered ate left and,I was still waiting for a small they cook large pizzas and my small wasn't ready. This tells me my ticket was forgotten Where the waitress lost her points she never came to update, apologize, reminded the kitchen I was waiting I had to bring to her attention they were too caught up in the newest customers and called in orders. I told her I needed to get the manager or owner I wasn't paying full price after 35+ mins of wait time when you place was empty. You pay at the front so that cost her her tip. Poor service I love tipping the manager knew he had to adjust bill so went from $22.33 to $18.33...I gave 2 stars because the pizza was good they lost 3 stars for customer and wait..Order that pizza to NEVER...

This company has been a staple in our community for YEARS ! Which is why I gave them 3 stars because they should KNOW BETTER ! They cut our pizza into slices. Call us petty but ordering pizza in our home is a tradition for Friday nights. We decide where we are going to spend our already overtaxed dollars at. We chose this place expecting a pizza night experience. We choose this place because the food is typically good and they cut the pie in SQUARES! Yes , squares and taste is the deciding factor. It’s just cool and fun for the kiddies. Tonight the kids called the pizza Nasty! We know it wasn’t they just couldn’t believe it was Whalley pizza ... because of the huge NY style slices that we don’t want from them. With that being said and I know this post may seem petty we are taking a break from them. If we want to fold our slices over while sinking our teeth into it , we will buy Neopolitan Style pizza from some of the greats here in New Haven. I’m thinking Whalley have new owners. The ancestors will not be happy with the sliced pies we were given on tonight. This is the first time we have more than 75% of the pie left over. The power of the mind. Whalley Pizza please get your hours back up and your cooks in a better head space. I’m not liking you right now !!

56 years ago I was a senior at Southern Ct. State College, now a university. A friend and I took a two-hour drive to New Haven on a very rainy Saturday, specifically so I could see how the campus has grown and to unlock some fond memories. During my time as a college student, Al's Burgers occupied the building now home to Whalley's Pizza, and a roommate and I lived in a small apartment over an insurance office across the street. While nostalgia may have coaxed us to have lunch at Whalley's, it was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. My friend very much enjoyed her meatball sandwich, and I enjoyed the chicken with peppers, tomatoes, and onions over white rice. Although my lunch may not have been one of Al's juicy burgers from my senior year in 1967, and the insurance building has long since been torn down, I couldn't get over how delicious my lunch turned out to be! I ate about a third of the heaping portion brought to the table and happily brought home the rest... enough for two more meals. Tasty, hot, plentiful food, reasonable prices, a delightful server, and memories from a lifetime ago all served up in a friendly atmosphere. Really a wonderful experience. I can easily see another day trip...
