Tropical Smoothie Cafe — Restaurant in New Lenox

Ordered a chicken pesto flatbread sandwich on 12/16 around 9:45am. There was only one other person there when I got there to pickup my order. I was really excited to try the sandwich and was about halfway through eating it when I bit into something hard. After pulling it out of my mouth and taking a look at it I realized It was a LONG WHITE PRESS ON FINGERNAIL. I immediately returned my sandwich and smoothie and showed the young girl with brown hair behind the counter and in her exacts words she said “yeah that’s a fingernail, but it’s not mine” as if that makes it any better. Why are your employees not wearing gloves? And do you realize everything that sits underneath your nails, it’s absolutely disgusting. Now I am not upset with the young girl because this is probably her first job and there wasn’t a manager around at all. What I am upset about is not only the fact that I chewed on a bacteria filled fingernail but also that I have reached out on your website with my concern and have not received a response from anyone. If I have to I will eventually be going to corporate to address this...

I enjoy the smoothies and everything I've had off the menu. For those with gripes about carb/sugar count - if you're concerned with these things, your best course of action is to maybe not eat out. If you had any idea what was actually IN most of the things you eat, you would rate everything poorly and that's not exactly fair.

Why 4 stars? It's about a nonsense policy they have regarding the excessive smoothie left in the blender. For example, if you add whey to a smoothie, is "fluffs" it a bit and adds some volume. It's annoying to be told that "you pay for what gets inside the cup." Which is actually pretty ridiculous, the assertion is that they would rather waste product that someone would happily take (since they actually paid for it.)

Other smoothie places don't do this (Jamba, for example). Instead, they ask if you want the rest in a smaller cup.

I absolutely adore this place!!! The smoothies here are consistently well made, the workers are always accommodating and are very friendly, and even their food knocks out anything else you could get around town. The atmosphere is nothing like any other place I've been to, with a nice bright cafe settings that really puts the whole cafe together. Being known for their smoothies, they have a large and well balanced selection of flavors, and the same can be said about their choices for food. If they ever had to get rid of their smoothies for one reason or another, I would still go out of my way just to buy another one of their wraps. And don't let the prices intimidate you; if you think $5 for a smoothie is a lot, then you must not realize how much comes in these things (enough to replace your entire meal)! 5/5 for sure, at least a hundred interactions and not one of...
