A good go-to spot for a group- pretty much something for everyone because you have a lot of freedom to choose your sausage and your toppings. Unique Louisiana flavors like crawfish sausage, alligator sausage, duck and Vaucresson creole hot sausage and about 40 toppings to choose from, as well as toppings for great tots and fries. You can pretty much get something new every time you go and for about $10 a person. All 3 locations (magazine st, freret st and frenchman st) offer a great experience for grabbing an easy lunch or dinner with outdoor seating.

So why 4 stars: The staff is pretty much all very friendly and helpful and you can tell they're busting their butts, but I think issues come from the top- they need to work on keeping staff morale up, I noticed a change months before the pandemic shutdown and with understaffing, it's understandably gotten worse bc of the customers being impatient with them. The vibe of Dat Dog has always been bright and fun (look at the decor), staff actually looked like they enjoyed where they work, and it's sort of lost that, which made it special. I hope the owners step back and take the time as we recover from Covid and Ida to repair some of the tables and their relationship...

We came in with a group of 10 on Friday to grab a quick bite while shopping. We had heard great things about the place and we’re really looking forward to it! However, the customer service was absolutely terrible from one bartender specifically. There were two bartenders, one of which was solely making drinks and standing there when she wasn’t making drinks. And the other that was taking orders, putting them in, etc. After about 10 minutes of standing at the bar, we called over the bartender making drinks to make sure this is where we were supposed to order. She rudely said to us that they only had one computer working and so we were going to have to wait. This is after 10 minutes of us seeing her make a drink and then stand there and passing by us multiple times without saying a word. As someone with a background in customer service, it would have been really simple for her greet us and let us know they would be with us soon. Instead, she was rude and hostile with us the second we stepped foot at the bar.

However, the other bartender taking orders was so pleasant and kind! We all felt...

This is definitely a casual counter service with really nice people who work there. A friend of mine who visited here from San Francisco recommended I go there and have an alligator sausage. So I ordered the alligator with the sauce that I don’t remember the name of, but it was delicious. I have to admit that alligator or something that we should try yet it’s probably not my favorite… However, the sausage was well-made and the other options looked very tempting. I wish I had had time to get back there and try some of the other ones.

I loved the variety of toppings that they had available. And it was a really fun selection.

I was impressed with the bun. It wasn’t a typical hotdog bun. It was a very light delicious bun that held up to the sausage that had a uniquely fresh taste.

If I get back to New Orleans, I will absolutely go try some of the other things. This is nice because it is reasonably priced great place to bring people who want to try different things and they have both indoor outdoor seating and I believe they also serve adult soft drinks very...

Fresh buns and weenies for all! Dat Dog is an amazing selection of weenies and sausages from a burger made like a dog to alligator and duck and crawfish to a straight forward brat. If you can stuff it in an intestine and make it devine, Dat Dog is dat place! The bun is a fresh bun to hold the creation made with love. I tried over a couple days the crawfish, alligator, duck, brat, burger, and a traditional weenie. My favorite is a tie between duck and alligator. As for sides, the chili was straight forward (tried as a side) and the fries were unfortunately not fresh cut as they seemed to be a standard frozen then fried affair, the only disappointments. But when surrounded by the perfect fusion of meats, castings, toppings, and buns any side item would have to be over the top to compete. And the environment? Fun, colorful, and welcoming. Just how a dog place should be. And don't forget to wash it all down with a beer... go for one of the local brews. I am not from NOLA, but I will be back to visit dat place!!!

I am vegetarian and am always too skeptical of trying anything vegan because most vegan items try to mimic the flavor and texture of meat which I am not a big fan of. Both my husband or I have never tried vegan hot dogs. This place however, was recommended to us by a friend, so we decided to give it a go. The ambience of this particular location was fun, like a cafe/bar like. It was pretty crowded when we entered, but we were able to get a booth to sit easily. We ordered the Spicy Chipotle Dog from their Vegetarian/Vegan section. Our order arrived in a few min and to our surprise it was really good. The bread had a nice crunch to it, the "hot dog" was perfectly seasoned. We went with some extra toppings of pickle, relish, pico de gallo, and some kind of cheese sauce. I would definitely recommend this place to all vegetarians and vegans. I am sure the meat section is fine too. If we go back to NOLA, we will definitely be back to this place.

Good casual place to get a sausage, way better in quality and flavor hotdog. Also very distinctive flavors and styles. I highly recommend to step out of your comfort zone w/ foods that you dont typically eat and go get some good comfort food. Unfortunately they dont have normal table service/waiters so the tables stay with dirty plates for a while and the tables dont seem to be wiped clean either. The night i went was very slow with only 3 tables being occupied and the other tables were dirty with plates and the one i was sitting at was sticky and had a lot of food scattered around the table. The staff also seems to only acknowledge you on their time, i went up to the register about 3xs and each time i had to wait for a few minutes before someone decided to put their cell down or stop writing. Which is why i give this place 3 stars, great comfort food and not extremely expensive but poor service and cleanliness.
