I ordered two legs a wing and a breast they gave me a thigh instead of two legs, but in spite of that this was very good fried chicken I got red beans with rice and the red beans was very authentic delicious New Orleans not a lot of spices, but you can always add that with spice. I was watching the french fries cooking and it looked at me like they were gonna get too dark so their grease was maybe old and needed to be thrown out. I have no idea how the fries are but the chicken and beans are great. I do have to say that the place smells really bad And I almost think the sanitation department should go over there because wow and a few restaurants in New Orleans have a weird smell like bleach on top of sewage kind of smell, but the look of the place outside is fantastic. It looks like it was some other kind of store that got converted into the chicken place. All these things are promised of good chicken and in this case it actually is good. I prefer Hank’s for chicken tenders, but for real chicken this place...
Read moreThe chicken here is unique. There's a peppery flavor to the chicken that's addictive. After each successive bite I just wanted more! I think this is my favorite fried chicken spot in town. If I could find a comparison, it would be a much better version of KFC'S original recipe. The breading doesn't have the crunchiness like Brothers chicken does. Rather there is a moderate coating of peppery bliss that folds into each succulent bite.
What I appreciate most about this chicken is that the flavors slowly harmonize with the palate and the flavor builds with each successive bite. This differs greatly from most of the fried chicken spots I have been where the approach is to create a first bite of intense flavor. I don't mind this but I think the approach is inferior because after a few pieces my palate is dumbed down and I no longer want to continue eating. This chicken continues to harmonize and engage the palate after 5 pieces without feeling like my palate is being...
Read moreWe love Mchardys! My grandmother knew this place was the only spot that came close to her fried chicken. She was an amazing cook and loved McHardys. As a busy mom, I get chicken and fries from them almost 3-4 times a month. It’s “always fresh and hot”. My children enjoy it and it is seasoned perfectly. My daughter isn’t a meat eater, but will request a “small leg because it’s tasty.” I love that she is able to get her protein. I appreciate a good hot meal for my kids when I don’t have time to cook. I have never had a disappointing meal from McHardys. They have street parking and take phone orders. The owners are some of the kindest people I’ve met, often coming to talk to the customers. You can tell this is a business all about family and relationships. They are also active in donating food to the community and giving back by hiring students and people who are often overlooked by society. I will continue to support these...
