We were short on time and about an 8 minute drive from this spot. Pay attention to the pictures of the outside of the building, so you'll know you're there without holding up traffic like we did. The sign was there, I was hungry and wasn't paying attention well.
We wished we had taken a picture before eating so you can see how massive this burger is! This picture is after about 4 bites.
The Double Vegan Heater!!!!! Listen. The only reason I didn't give it 5 Stars is because it was over salted (11pm - Sat, 12/7/24). This was my first time here, so I don't know if that was accidental or the norm. It wasn't too salty to finish, but it could've been if I was more sensitive to salt.
They ALREADY KNEW the difference between a vegetarian burger and a vegan burger. When I ordered, the guy specifically asked me to make sure I was getting what I wanted. This is rare. Vegetarians and Vegans KNOW what I'm talking about! That was another plus for us!
I've been a vegetarian for 27 years. It's not likely that I enjoy a vegan burger as much as I did this one. #NoCap. The patties weren't as textured as a beef patty. Meaning, they didn't hold together as a patty, but were more like a semi-loose meat burger, but not sloppy...even though we ate them in the car. We spilt NONE. The texture DID NOT lessen the way we enjoyed these burgers. In starting to think that was part of the enjoyment. The jalapeños were actually hot (THANKS), the sauce was on point, the buns were soft, but grilled, the fries were fresh and stayed hot the entire time. No ketchup needed. Before we finished our burgers, we had already made up our minds that, when we return to New Orleans, the lower 9th ward is a destination SPECIFICALLY for another one of these Double Vegan Heaters! AND THEY CLOSED AT MIDNIGHT! That made a HUGE difference for us, leaving a birthday party to go grab something to eat, because we didn't have anything at the party vegetarian friendly other than rice, fruit and devilled eggs. We were already prepared to find something to eat. Glad we decided on the Original Slap Burger. And, I plan on getting on that wall for finishing a Vegan Quad....
Read moreI found this place in a Google Maps search after a bike tour. But we skipped it that day and then took a bus and ate dinner here the following evening. We arrived and someone had to tell me that I had the right place. It was a bar and even though I read that in reviews, I didn't see any signage for the burger place initially. This was truly a hole in the wall restaurant. It's at the back of the bar in a room that only holds 10 people. We were the only ones there at first, but by the time we finished, we'd seen 2 cops grabbing dinner and nearly 2 dozen locals grabbing takeout. My husband had the 'Big Mac' burger and said it was 6 stars out of 5, so it was that good. I'm pickier and don't like sauce, but my burger with grilled onions was juicy and delicious. I love a good smash burger and this was definitely...
Read moreI've heard alot of good things about this place so I decided to check it out. Giving the time of day I went it wasn't crowed nor busy. The bartender, whom didn't seem like he cared to ask me anything, said do you want a drink? Walked away to talk to someone else then came back and said "WHAT" (1st strike). I let it go Mind you this my first time going So im looking around. There's a sign with an arrow going up thats says "kitchen and restaurants" to confirm this I ask what's upstairs or that way? With an attitude the bartender aggravatingly said, "Apartments now do you want a drink or not?" I'm sensing his negative vibe, second strike, im out. I don't want a person like that fixing my drink or bring me food. I politely got my purse and walked out....
