The Drift Inn Diner — Restaurant in New Orleans

I really want this restaurant to succeed! The Point needs a good neighborhood restaurant! The service was very good and the atmosphere is casual, has old red and white diner style tables and chairs. The menu is limited and thus I would expect they would do an excellent job with the few items they offer. There is a Hamburger, a Tuna Melt, a Breakfast Plate (served all day), Tofu and Grits and a Drifter Salad. And they have a kids Grilled Cheese.

We each had a burger. One with fries and one with salad. The food was unremarkable. The hamburgers were dry and tough and had no flavor at all. The fries are typical frozen shoestring fries. The salad served with the burger was just plain mixed greens from the bag thrown on the plate. No additions at all. There was only one type of dressing (house dressing) and it was brought in a little plastic cup. The food was extremely disappointing. The soft serve ice cream was tasty and is offered with chocolate, strawberry or butterscotch sauce. The prices are very reasonable, but I would rather pay a little more and have something that actually tasted good. I do hope they perfect the dishes they are serving, thats a requirement to have repeat customers. Great. Worth a trip over there from the east bank. Go over to barracuda and get yourself a little margarita beforehand. The diner looked like you’d expect it to. We got the VIP spot by the window in the booth. Right now it’s a soft opening apparently so the menu was limited, but we wanted burgers anyway. We got the hash brown bowl to split amongst four people to start. Table was split between drinking Schlitz and Jucifer. Just one round. Food came fast, and the burger was tasty and filling. Show string fries were solid. When the bill came for the three burgers (one burger was split and had extras like bacon on it and there was and an extra order of fries ), hash bowl, and beer it was $75. Pretty sweet. I have been waiting so long for a perfect little diner like this! Finally we have an evening spot to grab a good burger, fries and a float. The atmosphere is comfy and the staff are sweet as can be. I can't wait to see what else ends up on the menu as time goes by! Definitely...
