Despite growing up in Algiers, I had never been to this bar. Thanks to my recent trip I got to find what I had been missing all these years.
As I entered I was surprised at the size of the bar. It is fairly large with very high ceilings. There is a very long bar and several tables. There is also a stage and small area behind the stage with a pool table. One odd thing about the bar was that the men's restroom door couldn't be opened all the way. When opening the door it struck the stairway leading to the pool table. I guess this is their way of determining regulars. I obviously was not and when I exited there was a loud thump. Another interesting thing about the bathroom is that they put ice in the urinals. This is a huge plus. If you are a guy, you will enjoy watching the ice melt while you pee.
The bartender was friendly, but service suffered so she could take care of regulars first. As obvious outsiders we had to flag her down to get a drink. I can't hold that against her since if I were a regular, I would expect better service too.
Beer was reasonably priced. There was a decent selection of beers, and drafts were around $3.50.
I enjoyed my time at the Old Point and would gladly come back. If you're in the point and want a casual, neighborhood dive, give Old...

I was by myself until the next day had very low expectations of having fun, and just stopped in for a drink and the AC! But everyone there was warm and friendly after a bit of small talk. A few people bought me drinks- well a bit more than a couple and they were generous pours. The very sweet bartender cut me off by handing me a water and saying she couldn't in good conscience serve me any morešš. I didn't think at the time that I was all THAT toasty (but probably not the best judge of that). I drank half the water and took my tipsy butt back to the Airbnb without any protest . Let's just say I was extremely grateful the next morning and woke up feeling great! They really do care for their customers and were lovely people. Everything a local...
