I was really excited to have a burrito place in walking distance from work. I probably average a chipotle burrito once a week, and I was looking forward to having a place I could walk to instead of having to hop in the car. The location is small, so it’s clearly a grab-and-go type of restaurant. Perfect for a quick work lunch.
Pricing is similar to something like Chipotle, and service is nearly as quick. My burrito was packed full and rolled masterfully, but my experience fell apart when I took my first bite. The ingredients tasted high quality and fresh, but the flavor was surprisingly lacking.
I ordered an Inigo Montoya burrito, handheld style (as opposed to smothered or wet, meant to be eaten with a fork and knife) which included lime rice, pinto beans, shredded chicken, cheese, and the restaurant’s signature hatch green chile salsa.
Here’s my breakdown:
Hatch Chile Salsa - Understandably the star of the show. Most of the flavor in my burrito came from the green chile. I could practically drink this stuff.
Tortilla - In my opinion, can make or break a burrito. The restaurant seems to be using grocery store style tortillas like what I buy at Publix. They have little to no stretch, subpar chew, and very little flavor. I’d love to see homemade tortillas like I’ve seen at other restaurants where they grab press every tortilla fresh from a ball of dough for each burrito. I understand that this is asking for more work, and potentially more cost, but I personally feel it’s worth the extra mile.
Chicken - The chicken was moist, but lacked much flavor. That’s fine if the other ingredients provide a deeper flavor profile, but there’s not a whole lot going on with the rest of the burrito either.
Rice - I like the long cut rice that was in my burrito. It was cooked perfectly, so no mush and no crunchy grains. I’m not sure I detected the lime flavor that was advertised though.
Cheese - Hard to mess up. Who doesn’t like cheese?
Beans - I had pinto beans in my burrito. They were well drained, but not dry. In my opinion, perfectly cooked, but lacking in seasoning.
Closing remarks: I really want to see this business succeed. I love burritos and I love the convenience of having them walking distance from my office. I want to support local business, but I implore the kitchen to spice things up a bit. I know that this isn’t meant to be authentic Mexican food, but it doesn’t have to be authentic Latin flavor to tickle...
Read moreIf you want Mexican flavors, this is not the place.
My boyfriend is a quadriplegic in a wheelchair, and he was so excited to try this restaurant, that we went on his birthday. Only to be completely disappointed.
First of all, the restaurant is tiny, only for take out, and then even worst, its imposible to get inside for a wheelchair user. And even worst to order you must get inside, that means that if you are a wheelchair user, and want to enjoy a meal here by yourself as a normal human being, you cant.
The owners were nice, but they didn’t even try to help my boyfriend find a place to eat. And to me thats sad.
We got two burritos, and they tasted like nothing, Im Latin, and I didn’t get ANY Mexican flavors on our food, my boyfriend said the whole menu is based on their “fresh hatch green chiles” and we were so confused about it, because we definitely didn’t get any of that. Not even salt.
We got a soda, and they don’t have a fountain soda dispenser. So no refills.
I would describe the food in Beachin Burritos like if they coked for a boring extreme diet.
We took two bites of our meal, we couldn’t eat more, when we got back home other family members of us tried the burritos, and everybody said they tasted like nothing. And I wish I was exaggerating when I say this, but Im not. Food was boring, plain, watery… just disappointing
My burrito had “carnitas” and his had “pineapple and chicken” and we don’t understand how you cant make those ingredients without any flavor. Condiments, onions,...
Read moreNice take out site for "Mexican" fast food. Owners are extremely nice, great selection of items (including breakfast fare) and both prices and portions size are big winners. That is the good news. The bad news is unless you like bland Mexican food (which is the case for many), you probably will not be particularly impressed. My wife had two tacos. Portion size was quite generous. The problem is that the tacos were extremely bland. The beef had NO seasoning that we could detect. She had mild sauce on her tacos, which was tepid flavor-wise at best. I had a pulled pork bowl with mac n' cheese and green chili. The portion size was excellent but again, the meat had absolutely no flavor. The only real favor coming from the dish was cheese and green chili (the latter being quite nice). So..if you like bland food (or their hot sauce rescues the blandness issue), by all means visit as you will enjoy the meal. IF we were going to return, I'd either bring some sauces from home or grab some flavor packets from Taco Bell! This place would be a "home run" if they at least seasoned their meat. Even the use of a taco seasoning packet would be welcome. Big disappointment for us but we really dislike bland Mexican food. Obviously YMMV..as is the case for many. Overall, easily one of the worst "Mexican" food meals we have eaten. Scary that the owners actually think they have...
