Every city has to have something to hang its hat onto, and NSB is no exception. It’s just that it is a rather odd one, and probably not the kind you want to utter too often, lest it scare away the tourists. But then again, it does make for an interesting beer name at New Smyrna Beach Brewing.
Shark Attack IPA is drinkably apropos (not to mention delicious), given that NSB is the shark attack capital of the world. With an ABV of 7.4%, it is crushable without any hint of the alcohol. I do love this beer.
NSBBC is a place where locals hang out, but enough tourists drop in to keep things balanced. We always stop there when we come to town, weather specifically for the beach, or just for dining. And since it is only a few doors down from our favorite NSB restaurant, we always manage to include both. On this trip, our meal was bookended by the brewery, a Shark Attack for an appetizer, and then one for dessert.
I have tried many other NSBBC beers through the years, and they never disappoint, from Feeding Frenzy (Irish Red Ale; 5.2% ABV) to That Hoppy Beer (IPA; 7.1% ABV), Coronado Beach Cream Ale (5.7% ABV), Old Fort Coffee Stout (4.7% ABV), That New New Haze (IPA; 6% ABV), and Raspberry Out Of Saison (7.1% ABV).
Wait a sec. I just vouched for how good NSBBC is across the board. They don’t have any bad beer years. Prost, y’all!...
Read moreWent to New Smyrna Beach brewing company for the first time last night on a beer tour, this was a paid event that I and 24 other individuals paid to go on, beer was fantastic, and the popcorn is definitely a nice finger food to have to go with it. Our bus was late, so showed up to the bar later than I’m sure they were supposed to. This was out of our control but the servers took it out on our group. These were the rudest servers I’ve ever met and for me, they ruined the experience there. Anyone from our group that dealt with them to ask for a menu, a water, anything at all- was met with an attitude. As a server, it is your Job to provide these things. My girlfriend asked for a soda and was told it was too much because she didn’t want to clean the machine. She asked for a water instead and was given the nastiest look. As a group we were all willing to have patience with them on timing, but the attitude was so unnecessary. I wouldn’t spend my money...
Read moreWhen it comes to breweries, I like to review on certain attributes not considered here or elsewhere (well, maybe one place) - but the point is, I like to consider the location's vibe, quality, service, and selection, and if applicable it's food..
This brewery is located in a downtown area as well, and reminds me of one of my own local breweries that I frequent too. It was very much, eerily familiar, which is why I kinda liked it right out the get go.
The vibe was good here, as was the quality of their brews - no complaints there. Service was not as attentive as I would have liked to experience, but we were taken care of when we needed to be. Selection was not only good when it came to quantity of what they offered, but it was a good cross-section of what they had to offer as well. Definitely one of the breweries I'd like to visit...
