Update: We returned this week to the Patio Cafe because they had smoked brisket sausages as a lunch special. Wow! Really delicious. Neal and Joe informed us that they got rave reviews and so they will be a regular item on the menu in the future.
Original Review: My husband and I headed up Flagler Avenue after our sunrise walk and saw an entrance to a patio area. We went in to explore and were greeted warmly by Joe who made us feel right at home. We ordered the breakfast special, which came with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, and toast, and grabbed steaming cups of coffee before heading out to the patio where a table was set up for us with a cooling fan. The food was amazing, as was the coffee. This may sound crazy but when that toast came pre-buttered, I knew Iād be back. Iām from NYC and lately diners have gotten into the habit of serving up cold, hard toast with frozen butter pats. Thanks, no thanks. š When I exclaimed, āyou buttered the toast!ā poor Neal thought I hadnāt wanted it that way, but I actually wanted to hug him. These guys pay attention to every detail. They give you space to enjoy your food and talk but pop in to make sure everythingās going well. Joe shared that they might be adding homestyle cinnamon toast to the menuāa childhood favorite. My husband and I have decided weāll treat ourselves to breakfast here every week after a walk. See ya...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas checking Google Maps for a nice place to have some lunch. I saw the Patio Cafe, and the reviews were good. I mapped it out, but I was mistaken and thought the Patio Cafe was on Flagler Ave. It is not. The Patio Cafe is located in the "Shops at the Colony." It is on the north side of Flagler Ave and is in a courtyard area. Within the courtyard are several shops. You will see that within the courtyard are several tables and umbrellas. The cafe entrance is on the east side of the courtyard. The menu is not extensive but offers waffles and sandwiches, with a few other items. I had the chicken salad on great tasting bread, and the wife had the chicken salad. They offer a BLT, but I will order that next time. The food came out quick as we sat at the table with the umbrella. Neal, one of the owners, served us, and throughout our time, he was very attentive asking if we needed anything. Obviously, he has a customer service background as a restaurateur. The knife and fork were wrapped in cloth, not your typical paper napkin. I liked the clothed linen for the eating utensils. Neal and his partner Joe are very nice and easy to talk to. Plus, on this day, a small glass of wine was given. It's a nice place to visit and dine, and I will be back. PS. Open til 3 pm as...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn our recent vacation in NSB we stayed at the condo upstairs from this hidden gem and were delighted by the food and staff each and every day of our vacation. By the end of our vacation, we felt like we were talking with old friends who just happened to make us the most delicious food whenever we wanted it except Tuesdays and after 3pm and charged us a mere pittance for the quality of food, portions and service. While we dined at several great places, something about the patio cafe and it's courtyard was cozy and unassuming but tasteful. No paper plates or plastic here. We tried quite a few things for breakfast and lunch on their menu and all were fresh and delicious but hands down our favorite was the fresh tomato and basil soup. I'm still thinking about it and unabashedly scraping the bowl clean. If in season, the avocados grown right there in NSB are perfect accompaniment to any dish. The staff made us feel like we were their only priority and that's really rare to find these days. I can't say enough about this wonderful spot and hope the soup is still on the menu next time we're in town! Also, this is a vegetarian friendly restaurant but their perfect bacon would...
