Heard about this new joint from a friend of ours. The hook was an amazing hot dog in a Korean place that sold other Korean street/snack fare. We stopped by the other night with our hungry kids to check it out. First off, it's decor is so interesting. It's like being in one of those shipping container yards with walls made shipping container doors. Fun allusions to being an import I guess. We ordered the spicy rice cake pot and a few of what turned out to be fancy corn dogs. Now given that "Basac" is a Korean term to describe a state of crispiness achieved typically when you fry food, I'm looking for some a good fry! We got the ramen encrusted and the French fry encrusted versions. When the server asked if we want cheese too, we gave him our best captain obvious face and went all in!
First the spicy rice cake. We asked for the not so spicy version (for the kids' sake). It was spicy! The server said the regular is even spicier but tasted even better. But it was ok. There idea is that at the end you get some rice or other addon to mix in to the remaining sauce. That probably would have been awesome but we had hot dogs to eat. They came out crispy as promised. Note similarities to corn dogs ended with the rough shape. These dogs on a stick are dipped in what tastes more like donut batter. Sweet and fluffy. But with a crunchy shell accentuated by the outer coating of the ramen or French fry. It was so good. A note about the cheese. I think they essentially cut the dog in half and stick half a cheese stick in its place before frying. Next time I might skip the cheese and go full dog. Lastly, I ended up dunking my dog in the remaining sauce from the spicy rice cake and it was glorious! The price was not too bad (especially for the dog). Service (for a small fast food place) was great. They also sell beer so next time, coming back with grown-ups to wash down all that spicy stuff...
Read moreSomeone showed me a mukbang and I was on a mission to find a place with corndogs. My sister and I found Basac and decided to go for a road trip. Super impressed with the fact they are still taking precautions. The service was impeccable. We had 2 gentlemen that helped us and each was beyond nice and friendly. They answered our questions and explained everything to us. I know this is going to sound weird but even their water was refreshing and amazing. It was ice cold and served in stainless steel cups. We got tokpokki and it was fresh, hot and served promptly. I also got my.corndog!!! Which was equally delicious. The tokpokki was a tad bit more spice than I expected so when we told the waiter when we were wrapping it, he suggested when we reheat to add some water to lessen the spice. The atmosphere was low key and loved the concept of being in the shipping container. Needless to say,the Basac was definitely worth the trip. Thank you for a great...
Read moreOne of the better Korean restaurants I’ve been to. Ordered the Ramyun teokkbokki, sweet garlic fried chicken, and cheese Kimbap. Portion sizes were very large so be careful not to over order if you don’t want leftovers.
The rapokki was great, amazing gochujang based sauce. 4/5 because it could have been a lot more spicy. Definitely mild.
The Korean fried chicken was fantastic. Ordered a small and this giant bowl of it was brought out. Crisp texture and interesting garlic sauce. Definitely sweet and salty. 5/5
The cheese Kimbap was interesting that’s for sure, not sure if the cheddar cheese mixed well with the rest of the Kimbap. I definitely wish I had ordered just the regular Kimbap. The cheese took a way from those typical Kimbap flavors. 3.5/5
Overall, would definitely come again. I will be asking for the teokkbokki to be more spicy and I won’t order the cheese...
