First of all, the food was miniscule. It was all just soggy cabbage. About 4/5 of everything was just vegetables, and not chicken. We were expecting something more, appeasing. Second, the service was beyond my expectations. They were rude, xenophobic, and were just all together horrible. When we wanted something, we had to wait upwards of 5 minutes for a waiter to come to us. Even worse, when they were taking our order, one of them who likely was the owner/manager was like "Oh ma gawd" to us putting something into the food, that THEY GAVE US. The rest of the time, they were very unwilling to come to us and help us. All we wanted was some extra salad, and it took 10 minutes for them to bring us some. Thirdly, the atmosphere was horrible. We were stuck in a building that was somewhere between 15 feet by 200 feet, maybe less. The chairs were very hard, there was dirty seating, and overall bad atmosphere. Once it was time to pay the bill, we obviously saw the waiters looking at us, but turned their heads acting as they didn't see us. 10 minutes later, they finally came after one of us had to walk over and tell them we were ready to pay the bill. Note that on the menu, it said that it was roughly $25 for a 2 person serving. They charged us $100 for 4 people. The math doesn't math right? Well, the owner/manager looking person said that it was $25 PER PERSON. They basically scammed us. I would NOT recommend this place ever, and I am not...
Read moreI feel bad adding this review since I really wanted to like this place. I read the NYTimes review, it sounded awesome, and I always wanted to go. I don't live in the Flushing area, but one day while wondering around I noticed I was standing in front of this place and I just had to go.
The food was fine, it was fun to have it all cooked at the table, service was attentive. But, the main thing that hurt it for me was the price: I went with one other person and we paid $40 for what felt like a bunch of cabbage (a low cost ingredient) and a little bit of meat and cheese on top. I could have easily eaten the entire meal myself, even with the extra pancake on the side.
The taste of the food was OK, it is nice for it to be so simple. But the simplicity hurt it in some ways as well: this really felt like a quick cheap and healthy meal that I would make for myself during the week when I wanted to eat a bunch of healthy vegetables (cabbage), but still with a lot of flavor.
Maybe I am just missing something. Maybe there was some magic infused in the ingredients that my brain couldn't pick up on. But sadly, this was definitely a big...
Read moreAfter four years of searching, I finally found and return to this restaurant. As far as I could remember, nothing has changed. While the restaurant itself is small with few tables, you'll soon forget it after eating the food. Obviously, you need to come for the pancake. However, note that you need to order a minimum of 2 servings. The servings are VERY large, so definitely bring a family or friend and an empty stomach. You may order appetizers and entrees. As tasty and beautiful they are, it'll fill you up, making you unable to finish the main course. On a side note, you do not need experience to cook the pancake. The waitress, or was that the manager, will help assist. She'll cook the food to perfection, adding any sauce/flavoring you want, and help you cut...
