I’ve been going to Allan’s for years. Used to get all my cakes from them. I’m talking baby showers, birthdays, and everything in between. I went in last month and ordered a fruit cake with white icing for my small wedding ceremony. Now I know to them that purchase might not have meant anything but it meant a whole lot to me. The cake was picked up by a friend so she gave my name it looked like the right prefer so she took it. The evening of my wedding as I cut the cake I realized it was a plain sponge cake. Well being of West Indian descent this was heartbreaking as I wanted to save a piece in the feeezer for the next year. I called Allan’s the next day and the response was horrible. The lady who I spoke to I believe her name was Pat said well why didn’t I have the person picking up my cake ask a question about the price. Because if the receipt said fruit cake then I’d have a balance due and then she asked why I didn’t look at the receipt and saw it said pif (pain in full) and that I should come in with the cake the next day and speak with the person who took my order. It was a bunch of back and forth. Not once did she say I apologize or I’m sorry this happened to you nothing of the sort all she did was play the blame game. She didn’t even offer to give me the original cake I wanted nothing to satisfy the customer. And I get it so what if they loose one customer. They still have a multitude of people purchasing from them so why should I matter. Well Allan’s you did lose a repeat customer along with my referrals. Like you, I run a family business an elementary school to be exact and I use to refer my parents to your establishment whenever they’re having parties for their kids at my school. Not any more. In the future know that customer service and humility goes a very long way. Had she had some compassion for how I felt or put herself in my shoes my response would be different. It was supposed to be a wedding cake. My wedding cake. I wasn’t asking for anything freee. Just my original order. I was even willing to pay the difference and drive from...
Read moreI don't usually write reviews, but after my last experience with Allan's Bakery I felt compelled to. I have been patronizing Allan's bakery for years. On Christmas Eve, I ordered my usual sponge cake with pineapple filling at 8am. I was told that it would be ready at 5pm. I understood the late pick-up because it was Christmas Eve. I got to the store around 6pm and waited for 25 minutes to pick up the cake they said was ready because I called before I went. I finally picked up the cake amongst all the confusion in the store. When I got in my car and placed it on the seat, the top piece started sliding all over the place. I kept shifting the box so it would stay in place. When I finally made it home, the cake, filling, and icing was a mess. I could not take it to the planned event for Christmas. The next day was Christmas so they were closed. I called the day after and was on hold forever. Finally, I was put through to the "so called" manager. She told me that this has never happened before and the cake was good when I left so I must have melted it somehow. "There is a first time for everything". Not sure how that could have happened unless I drove home in a sauna. The heat was not even on in my car because it was not freezing cold that day. Me looking at the cake for a hot minute in the store before leaving does not mean that it was in perfect condition. I commute to this bakery from Queens. All I expected was a sorry, or i'll reimburse half your money or something. Received nothing but, sorry the cake was fine when you saw it and left. Allan's bakery would rather lose a loyal customer for $47. I was so disgusted and disappointed in their treatment of a customer whose FAMILY and FRIENDS patronize their establishment. Like I said, I had to write this review. Hopefully someone reads it and takes heed despite their 4...
Read moreVery disappointed with Allan's Bakery. This was my mother's favorite Bakery and she was asking me for months that she wanted to celebrate her 84th birthday with one of their fabulous sponge cake with pineapple filling. I pre-ordered the cake to have it delivered to her on her birthday. The day of I received a text around noon that the oder was being prepared and would be delivered btw 4pm-4:10pm. Approximately at 4pm I received another text saying that my order has been canceled. I couldn't believe it. I called the restaurant but no one answered. They left a message on GrubHub stating that they canceled my order due to lack of an item. I was beyond devastated for my mom and her guests who were waiting for the cake. I will never ever order from them again. I didn't appreciate how this was handled and it just left me scrambling for a plan B. This order was requested days in advance so if something was missing they should've contacted me directly and not jist canceled my order after texting me that it was in work. I'm still upset and I received a full refund but it wasn't about the money, it was about how poorly it was handled and how it ruined my mother's birthday. I'm never ordering from Allan's...
