I stumbled upon Gramercy Caf3 as I was out shopping along Steinway Street in Astoria today. The restaurant is located on the busy corner of Steinway and Broadway. I believe they just opened this week.
Inside, you can see that it is not a very large restaurant. Most of the tables are compact in size and some of the tables are placed close together. It's a nicely lit restaurant with windows on either side. When I dined there today, I noticed that it got quite noisy. And was amazed that all the food is made from a small flattop near the bar. There is one family bathroom located in the back. At the front of the restaurant are the drinks and some desserts that can be purchased to go.
The menu is really large and boast of typical diner fare. With a mish mash of Greek, Italian and Mexican options.
I ordered the fish tacos and a side of fries. The fish in the tacos, I think, were the kind that are frozen and premade but otherwise were great. The fish was cooked nicely and was crunchy and flaky. The pineapple salsa and cilantro on top was a nice added touch and gave it great flavor. And the French fries were delicious. So simple but done very well. It was golden brown, crispy and wasn't too salty. On my way out I also picked up a cup of what I thought was tiramisu, but It turns out it was flan. The cups did not have any labels or anything on it. I thought the flan tasted pretty good. Generally, flan tastes very sweet and usually has some kind of caramel topping. This instead had raisins and was not as creamy in texture. Still, it was pretty tasty.
Overall, the food and service were good. Everything was cooked properly, and they kept refilling my cup of coffee. They are one of the few restaurants in Astoria that is open 24/7, I think most of them are also diners.

Read moreI give food a five because it is good and I enjoy all the times I went. I used to go to this place frequently but this last Saturday I had a bad experience with a waitress.. seems like she was upset.. we ordered our food and she was not nice at all didn’t even bother to say “ enjoy your food” just throw our food over the table and left .. ordered a milkshake for my 2 year old baby and she gave me in a cup of glass and I kindly asked her to please give a plastic cup and she just turn around and left had to ask another waitress to please change the cup and then they changed .. after all I was feeding my baby and eating which made me take little time but she just took my “not empty plate” had to tell her “I am not finish “ so she throw my plate back to the table.. sorry but I just did not like the way she served me and my family .. I hope the owner sees the review and talk to this lady .. lastly we asked for the check and she took long time to give us I felt like she did not want to serve us and we felt forced to tip her .. even that I always like to thank with a tip to the Person who help us to enjoy our food but this time wasn’t...
Read morePoor experience. No better than Michael's.
I decided to give this place a try after going to the other nearby diner, Michael's.
This business is run on a scarcity mindset, which is truly lamentable especially in a neighborhood with many good breakfast places. This one is not one of them.
You're given ONE napkin with no more available unless you ask for it. Same goes for beverage sweeteners, of which they have no Stevia btw (it's almost 2022, get with the program) and for which you also have to ask. Their coffee tastes simply and objectively BAD.
The waitress didn't get my order right and had to ask for more condiments after I was given a tiny amount, again scarcity mindset. And I was charged for it.
The bathroom is not the cleanest. The toilet has no seat and the flushing buttons on the wall are broken. Hand soap is the cheap kind, watered down. Beware as you may be rushed out by a tactless waitress making plate noises in an attempt to get you out.
P.S. if you pay by card they will charge you an extra "non cash fee" without telling you.
Overall a poor and unremarkable experience. Avoid by going to any other...
