I waited until I calmed down to write this review. Here I am the next morning. Yesterday late afternoon I went this coffee shop to try their pistachio latte. The guy who works behind the counter I guess was annoyed that he had to step back in to do his job because at that moment he was outside speaking with whoever was passing by. My fiancé went in to get us the latte and a banana for herself. She runs back out to me to tell me that this guy said our $50 bill was fake. I go in and he tells me the same thing. I calmly pay with my card but when we got back in the car to inspect the 50 it looked very real actually. But to be safe, I called my elderly Dad to also let him know that the 50 he gave me was fake just for him to say not possible because it came from Chase Bank and he actually had more of those bills. I was ready to carry on with my day and follow up with this whole situation at a later time but here we go.... The latte was so terrible! Seriously just a ton of milk and old blended pistachio. It didn't look good or taste good at all. We left feeling like we just got embarrassed with accusations of a fake bill, which was real!!! We took the bill to Citibank the next morning to deposit with no issue... lack of care from guy behind the counter, and then the latte was really bad. Yes, I took a picture of it. Needless to say I should have just went to the Dunkin up the block. And yes, going forward I will...
Read moreI’m Doubling down on my previous review from a year! This establishment is the gold-standard! Amazing community business. Thank you!
Look, I’m not writing for The NY Times, so I’ll get straight to the point. Breakfast burrito with bacon at Azalea: THE ABSOLUTE BEST! To add context, I live at 116th and Claremont and literally walk through Morningside Park to get on the M16 bus to get to this spot at 116th and…you know what, I have no idea where I am. The point is that it’s way far and an expedition to get here! It takes at least 40 minutes, so it doesn’t happen often. Here’s what’s great about the place and the BB: It’s small, independently operated, clean &organized, and unpretentious(!!!); it’s not crowded; the cashier/barista is efficient and appropriately friendly & attentive; it has a single stall public restroom that’s IMMACULATELY CLEAN (never take this for granted!). Now the burrito: SIMPLE AND DELICIOUS — the ingredients are individually discernible and well cooked — tender, non-soggy potatoes marry with griddle-cooked bacon, soft scrambled egg (semi-runny yolk), onions and it’s all perfectly and NOT overly seasoned. You can taste that it’s cooked to order with intention and standard!!! Just a delicious way to start the morning, or early afternoon and a great place to spend your hard earned money and get quality! I highly recommend for the consistency and especially the...
Read morethis place with my bf while we were taking a morning walk around the neighborhood. Got a breakfast burrito, Azalea sandwich, cappuccino, and smoothie and paid via Apple Pay as soon as we ordered. The food was alright. Simple but alright. When we were done, we cleared our things, said “have a great day” and headed towards the door. That’s when another employee gave us a suspicious look and asked us loudly if we paid or not. We looked at the other employee who rung up our order, we could not believe he didn’t step in and explain that we had already paid. After I clarified, I expected an apology but instead they said, “did you pay for those waters too??” (They were referring to 2 half empty water bottles, purchased elsewhere, that I had taken out of my bag.) Again we clarified, again they did not apologize. As two young black adults, we did feel racially profiled at this establishment. We were just trying to support a local business. So...
