Basil Brick Oven Pizza — Restaurant in New York

I would love to give this place 5 stars but I simply cannot. We dined in last week for a party, and we sat down and it took 15 minutes just to be greeted. When we were greeted, the server had only taken one drink order rather than taking all drink orders. She came back and I asked for an espresso martinis, and she asked how to make that. I’m not supposed to tell a bartender how to make a drink, she should know. She came back with our drinks, and they were all wrong and the espresso martini had more vodka than espresso and 6 beans instead of 3. We repeatedly asked for more water which was very slow. When she finally our order, I had a question about a menu item and she didn’t know the answer. The food, hands down some of the best Italian food in the area. The chicken parmigiana with vodka sauce hit the spot and the pasta is so fresh tasting. Shoutout to the kitchen for unbelievable food. I order often from UberEats as I rarely go out anymore and will continue to do so because that’s how amazing the food is. I had asked the server for her recommendation on a wine pairing for the chicken parmigiana which I had an idea, but again she said “oh I don’t know the wine list that well and I don’t drink wine enough to know”…Unfortunately service was terrible and the atmosphere was not lively at all. My family and I dined at this restaurant about 3 days ago and the service was great; Basil Brick oven restaurant was recommended to us by a friend of mine from work. Right when we arrived The server in the front instantly greeted my family, made us feel welcome, and sat us at our desired table. We had amazing service, not a long wait, and the food was delicioussss. I will most definitely come again with my family and maybe some friends as well the drinks are great food is amazing generous portions we ordered the poached pear salad Parma arugula pie and Tartufata pie to start, a couple passion mojitos and a bottle of montepulciano to celebrate my parents 25th anniversary Our servers were amazing, explained the menu well to us as it was our first time at this restaurant, paid close attention to detail.For entrees to share we ordered so we could try a few things we ordered linguini Pescatori in red sauce, lobster ravioli, MY FAVORITE of all the dishes, we also ordered Pappardelle Al Funghi Misti e tartufo and Gnocchi pesto DELISH! Whom I believed to be the owner of the restaurant came to check on our table as well and was a very nice man who brought us dessert on the house tiramisu cake an Italian espresso cake, hit the spot! Went here on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm after a couple hours of tennis at the park. Just wanted a quick appetizer and a few drinks on our way home. We were promptly notified of a 20 dollar food order minimum. Have worked in restaurants for 20 years and have never heard of this. We reluctantly ordered a salad to accompany our pizza so we would meet the minimum. Pizza was fine but I prefer a thinner, crispier crust Salad was good. Server was uninterested. The real kicker came on my walk home when I more closely examined the check and noticed an automatic gratuity of 20%. We were 3 people. Never have I seen this and didn’t notice that mentioned on the menu. I tipped an extra 25% on top without realizing. My fault for not noticing the auto-grat. I tip well regardless of poorer service because maybe someone was having a bad day. Very disappointed. Won’t be back.

*I’d like to add that’s while appreciate the speedy response by the owner I’m a more furious now. My check was 54 dollars and with the included gratuity is was 64. I added a 25% tip to that which would make the check about 80 dollars. My bank statement shows a 94 dollar charge from Basil. Unacceptable. I’d give zero stars because of this if I could....
