Yesterday I came to eat here. After waiting a bit, the waitress came and we ordered 2 glasses of pinot noir. When the waitress came back to take our food order, I stated that I was not hungry but would have the shrimp appetizer (crevettes) and the poulet sandwich but that she should bring them both together. After about 30 minutes, a different waiter came with the shrimp and something else, but not the sandwich. I asked him where the sandwich was and what was the other food on the additional plate. He said, "Those are your appetizers". I told him that I had no idea what was on that other plate, and I certainly didn't order it. I ordered one appetizer with shrimp and one chicken sandwich and clearly requested that they be served at the same time. He took the second plate away (it actually looked disgusting). As I began to try my shrimp (it was good), the original waitress came and immediately asked, "What's wrong?" I responded, "Nothing". She then said,"What happened with the brie that you ordered?" I said you must be mistaken because I never ordered it (like neither here nor ever in my life). I told her that I clearly ordered the shrimp appetizer and the chicken sandwich and requested that they be brought together. The shrimp came with no chicken and some other dish I didn't order and couldn't even tell what it was. She then rudely began to state, "You ordered it, I heard you, I always repeat myself etc. etc.". I stayed quiet and let her rant but her behavior in a crowded restaurant was "inexcusable". Rule #1: Never argue with the client even when wrong. Rule #2: Never even attempt to argue with the client when they're right. A consumer has plenty of options when eating out....we can vote with our wallet. It is hard enough for a restaurant to survive these days with good service, but not possible with terrible service! The waitress in question is extremely rude and not professional. I believe that she is the wife of the owner. If the owner believes that he wants his place to be an elegant French bistro, he needs professional waiters. Most of the staff he has are inexperienced and rude family members. I only left a tip because I felt sorry for the second waiter, who was actually a busboy. I will never come back here again after...
Read moreSituated in an unassuming strip mall in the middle of no where east Elmhurst queens, if you blink you'll miss it. Only reason I knew of this strip mall is because of the pet supply store I frequent for my ferret and the amazingly delicious French bakery that's right next door to this restaurant that does a killer Buche de Noel during the holidays.
Only a little over 3 months young, this is a welcome gem to the queens restaurant circuit. Ordered all of the appetizers on the right column and one salad from the left, because let's get real, salad is a filler folks ;) plus their classic French onion soup and the cream of mushroom soup of the day. Also ordered 2 classic entrees: beouf bourguignon and the duck confit cassoulet.
Remember they are still getting their kinks out but let's give them a chance to improve! The delicious standouts from their appetizer selections were the luscious brie en croute, the cream of mushroom soup of the day, the mussels, housemade paté, and steak tartare.
I wish they would have left the escargot alone and served it up in the usual garlic butter drenched goodness. The salmon tartare needed a bit of citrus and salt, the quinoa salad with mango and generous portions of jumbo shrimp desperately needed a dressing, unless it does come with and they forgot to give it, and sadly the French onion soup lacked any depth because the onions were not caramelized long enough to develop any true flavor.
Their mashed potato was to die for!! Beouf bourguignon was delicious and the classic cassoulet, was was too salty but they did a marvelous job of the duck confit!
They had three desserts on hand this night: a creme brulee, though delicious lacked the vanilla flavor, a super tart and amazing lemon meringue tart and and a beautiful chocolate mousse.
Service is delightful and fun and even with all that is going on in this tiny space, they are most attentive without being intrusive. I look forward to...
Read moreFor the first time ever I’m kind of confused how to really grade this place. Some of the dishes are perfection, while others are so far from French cuisine. The tartare for instance, I asked what ingredients were in it and I was told ketchup along with other things that I can’t remember because as soon as I heard ketchup, I was turned off and avoided it all together. The French onion soup also left so much to be desired and lacked flavor. The beef bourguignon was delicious along with steak. Both dishes cooked well and seasoned perfectly. Then you move on to desert and $13 for a crepe without a filling and just some fruit on top is just way over priced for what it is. Other places at least fill it with canned whipped cream to be cheap and still give you a “filling”. I don’t know? Just a very strange place. It’s like they kind of understand French food but also don’t at the same time? It was very hit or miss like there are two different chefs in the kitchen and one is French and the other is like from another planet and is trying to understand what French food is. I have no problem paying for quality but I just don’t think this has the quality for the price. This place isn’t bad but I also wouldn’t say it was great and you have to give it a try. It’s a good attempt at French food given the areas I wouldn’t say Queens is really known for French food but for more authentic places or even places that are at least somewhat decent when it comes to French-American Bistro, I wouldn’t go here. However, given that some of the food was great, I think 3 out of 5 stars is fair. The main reason why I deducted a star is because the service was so slow and it was not busy. I guess they added the Parisian touch of making you wait forever to get the...
