Black Rabbit — Restaurant in New York

I'm giving it two stars, but with a few changes, this could easily be a four star establishment. I like room for improvement and growth.

Good thing - The bartender was cheerful and reasonably attentive. Bad thing - She forgot two of the three drinks we ordered.

Good thing - The bartender made the drinks reasonably well. Bad thing - On a Saturday night, there was only one bartender, which led to really slow service.

Good thing - The fact that Black Rabbit has booths with little switches for waiter service is super cool. Bad thing - The service started off slow, and later devolved into non-existent to the point where we had to deal with the bartender again.

Good thing - The sound system seemed to beplaying Talking Heads' amazing album Remain In Light upon arrival. Bad thing - It ended up being the first four songs of the album before going back to the top track. Then the mix went to a "best of 2nd wave ska" sampler. This was fine, until the mix started repeating itself to the point where it was really annoying.

Good thing - The decor is unique and interesting. It seems sort of dark while still being inviting. Bad thing (maybe) - The ceiling is solidly blood red painted wood, from what I could tell. For whatever reason, I kept focusing on it and it bothered me.

Most horrible and racial bias bartender. I went with two friends. She refused to take my order, I asked if I could seat at the booth without ordering drinks, but she said that I couldn´t stay or eat anywhere in the whole establishment. I asked to give a detailed explanation of the issue, but instead, she gave us a very condescending and rude answer that didn´t make any sense. I asked her to be more polite, and as a response, she threw away my friend´s beer without even asking if them wanted to stay. As a consequence, we decided to leave in the middle of the worst rant that you can have with a bartender in front of other costumers. I was looking at other patrons reviews in Yelp and here, and the same bartender attitude seemed discriminatory against people of color. These horrible treatments will back against their business sooner than latter. The bad reviews speak volumes of that problematic behavior. Not because they have a black artist on their staff, it will excuse the bias treatment toward Latino, Muslim, Asian customers. Is a very disgusting attitude that owner should be accountable for. My friends and I were looking for a cozy bar for the first cold night of the year. Black rabbit is exactly what we were looking for. The fireplace and booths are so cozy.

Unfortunately our waiter was very hateful and rude. I was trying to have a simple discussion with him because I think he accidentally charged us for two extra drinks. He ripped the check out of my hand and fixed it. I gave him a good tip, handed the check back and said thank you. No response. General communication throughout the night wasn't great and he also wouldn't let my friend order a non-alcoholic drink of any sort.
