First time tried to go in afternoon I was told had to wait 20-30 minutes for oil to be changed, so I left. Second time I went wanted chicken strips of soy garlic & spicy. After placing order person from kitchen told them if I wanted something else because the chicken strips were not done and would take 20 minutes. Person at register said generally some items are cooked and then fried upon order. Then another person said I would have to wait. Three people telling me I had to wait but insisted if wanted something else instead as to not wait. I have been to other places that do Korean fried wings or strips, etc and generally have to wait for about 45 minutes. I understand the concept that Korean wings are fried twice hence why so crispy. It was as if they did not want to make my order, understand if sold out but to make my order?! Staff mostly very young and it reflects in their ability to speak to customers. I know this is more fast food than more typical eat in atmosphere. Even while waiting had same person who tried telling me if wanted something else what was I waiting for or looking for? Then another random person wanted to try to take an order which I respected his initiative but just seemed like horrid service when hearing whats up my guy would you like to order and then shortly after is cursing. I am not offended by cursing or anything of that nature but you have so many people of various ages and cultures coming in to this place where they will be offended. As for the food the fries were as cold as my drink. The soy garlic was more of a very salty taste as opposed to a beautiful meld of flavors. As for the spicy strips it was first time trying the food and unsure if was supposed to be that falvor of spice or mistaken for bbq flavor or mixed, I have no idea. At least 1 piece had a bit of heat and others did not. I had Korean strips before and here the batter was just falling off on some pieces. Honestly will not be back, had better expectations. I would rather leave Staten Island and drive to Manhattan or Queens for...
Read moreI had BonChon a few years ago at a mall in PA, I was shocked at how great the quality of the food was for being in a mall. So when I heard Staten Island was getting one I was excited, and could only hope for the best. Though, upon opening, I decided to check these reviews and was worried to see some negativity...... but I decided to go ad try it myself anyways and I'm happy to say I enjoyed it just as much as the first time I had it.
The place is known for Korean Fried Chicken, and it doesn't disapoint. Their soy-garlic and hot garlic sauces are great, and I highly recommend gettig the half-half combos with different sauces. Boneless or bone-in, BoChon's chicken is crispy, flavorful and delicious. If you're at a Korean Fired Chicken spot and are not ordering their chicken, you're doing it wrong....
I also had their cole-slaw and korean street corn as sides. The cole-slaw paired well with the heat from the spicier wing sauce, and the street corn was pretty good. It's nice to have many other options than the typical french-fry combo that's associated with most chicken wing combos.
My experience with service was great, I arrived and ordered in just a few minutes. The staff were extremely friendly, informative and helpful. Though I will say once I dined-in I noticed it got quite busy and it seemed they were swamped with online-orders and walk-ins. Over time this shouldn't be an issue as the new staff get through the learning curve and managemet of busy periods of the day.
All in all, I would 100% recommend trying BonChon, I know I'm going to find myself as a frequent customer here. I highly recommend their bone-in wings or boneless in both the soy-garlic and hot soy-garlic. The quality on these wings is 10x better than typical boring fast food stops, and way better than a wing...
Read moreIt is as bad as the other reviews claimed to be. I went in on a Sat around 4ish, already saw 5 angry customers crowding the front cashier. I was craving korean chicken so i ordered a 20 pieces anyway since i dont mind waiting. Overheard that one customer has been waiting in person for an hour but still didnt get her order. Another customer ordered online 30 min ago and apparently app said food is ready but has been here in the store for 20 min waiting for his food..... I think the only one cashier and one kitchen staff are trying their best but their communication is horrible. P.S. They had trouble finding one of the online order... Rip that person.... They even gave someone the wrong fries size order (dont forget to check before leaving! ). Luckily i think it is easier for them to make fried chicken in bulk so i got my order within 20 minutes....so dont order other items if it is on the weekend or rush hours.....probably an hour wait minimum
However the story didn't end there..... First time trying this place and with my previous multi- korean chicken eating ,mainly bbq chicken, i have a certain standards for it. The pieces of chicken were sooo small!!! 20 pieces cost about $30 and the coleslaw was super small too..... I honestly should have went to Popeyes for wings or some chinese takeout place for general tso or kung pao chicken.... The only pros are the crunchiness and the taste... However it is rock hard when it is cold... So imagine all those ppl waiting one hour for their cold korean chicken and other food..... They really need management at this store....but man i wish someone can open bbq chicken so i dont have to order from this place when i want...
