Caribbean Sweet Spice — Restaurant in New York

Omfg….came here with my mom(we’re both West Indian) on a whim just searching for great Caribbean food. Needless to say this DID NOT disappoint! Ended up spending way more than intended because the food looked so good and smelled even better! Still ended up paying less than comparable options and thoroughly enjoyed the food. The beef Pattie’s were absolutely perfection! Then oxtail, bake and salt fish, plantains, literally everything we bought was A1! My mom loved it and she can literally cooo this at home and told me she’s ready to come back for more this weekend instead of cooking. As far as it is from my house and moms, will still be coming back for more! The service was impeccable and the server absolutely made us feel welcomed and not like we burdened her with questions(moms questions ofc)! Wish I could give ten stars honestly! It was quite the treat to enjoy my native food in a wholesome...

My office ordered lunch from here today. All the orders were correct which was nice. We got patties (Veg, Chicken, Spinach, and beef) everyone seemed to really enjoy them. We also ordered the chicken soup which I was told was very good and tasty. We also ordered the small stew chicken entree, my co worker enjoyed that and really liked the steamed cabbage. Also the swèet chili wings were very good and portion sizes were generous. We ordered the cornmeal porridge and that was also very good. Now unfortunately the not so good. We ordered macaroni pie and the sweet spice pasta (Rasta Pasta) BOTH were extremely salty...we couldn't eat it. Also, the oxtail dinner...it was tasty but the oxtail definitely needed more cooking time. .was not tender. Other than that the food overall was good and we would definitely give it...

Pros- Excellent food (with the exception of the burnt rice and peas) Ordered 3 plates which consisted of rasta pasta, oxtails, stew chicken, and fried chicken. All meat was flavorful and good sized servings.

Cons- Server was on the phone the entire time holding it between her head and shoulder. She seemed annoyed when she had to pause her conversation to answer my questions. Server never used gloves and her long nailed fingers came in contact with the food while serving my 3 plates. Other Patrons who walked in while I was placing my order were never acknowledged, when one asked questions about whether they served a particular dish she answered rudely.

Food was good (again, besides the burnt rice) but service was in the toilet. Hence, the 3...
