I haven’t been to pianos in like 4 years, I always saw it as a jump off spot for like 21-24 year olds who are just starting to get into the bar setting. I’m very impressed with the slight changes in the bar. It’s still cash only, you either love it or hate it. They raised their $2 draft Bud to $3, they now have a great selection of natural wines on the menu & I happened to be there during happy hour so I bought a bottle of chilled Red🍷. They also changed the layout of their upstairs to outline the pool tables with little orange banquettes for a more lounge vibe. They also reduced the number of pool tables from 3 to 2. I will say, this feels like a much more mature bar already and I can now secretly pull up and be okay with it. The name still carries weight from what people my age have known before. GOOD WORK!

I give this place four stars because it’s exactly the type of dive bar you want to be at. Deep in Brooklyn but still close enough to the L train - you feel like you’re at a neighborhood spot that everyone goes to. When you arrive your ID is checked and then you walk into the ground level. There’s a wrap around bar with booth seating throughout. I went in the winter of 2024 and the upstairs was closed for construction, but I’ve been told when it’s open there’s even more space for large groups to gather, play pool, and have an overall good time. Drinks are CHEAP (draft bud was $3 and a martini was $10). Staff were friendly and brought your drinks out fast. Remember, this is a cash only spot and they do have an ATM within the establishment.

Carmelo's Restaurant in Brooklyn redefines the Mexican dining experience, offering a vibrant fusion of traditional flavors and contemporary flair. This culinary haven stands out in Brooklyn's bustling food scene, welcoming diners into a lively yet cozy atmosphere that immediately feels like home.

From the moment you're greeted at the door, Carmelo's commitment to authenticity and quality is evident. The menu is a celebration of Mexican cuisine, featuring dishes crafted with the freshest local ingredients and a depth of flavor that speaks to the heart of Mexico's rich culinary traditions. Whether it's the tender, perfectly seasoned carnitas, the flavorful street tacos, or the innovative ceviche with a twist, each dish is a masterpiece of taste and presentation.

But the real star at Carmelo's is the atmosphere. The vibrant decor, with its colorful murals and rustic accents, complements the warm, inviting ambiance, making every meal feel like a special occasion. The staff at Carmelo's are not just attentive; they are passionate about sharing their love for Mexican cuisine, offering recommendations and insights that elevate the dining experience.

The extensive selection of tequilas and mezcals, carefully curated to pair beautifully with the menu, along with expertly crafted cocktails, adds an extra layer of enjoyment...

Carmelo’s is the actualization of the bar you always dreamed of. Great, affordable drinks and sick music. There is so much space, which is a rarity in New York. All the staff are genuinely caring and interesting people. There are a few reviews here about being turned away either at the door or by the bartender. Some of these try to curse but asterisk out some of the letters like it’s 1999 MySpace. Time to grow up. And by the way, someone turning you down at a bar because he isn’t positive your ID is real isn’t arrogant or douchey, it’s called being a professional and doing your job. It happens sometimes. You don’t go cry to the internet and blame the bar. It’s their job to manage risk and if the bar staff aren’t sure the ID is real, it isn’t with the risk. This has happened to me with IDs from out of state as well. I shrug and feel disappointed, maybe try to fight it. Then move on and invoke my ability to put myself in someone else’s shoes and realize they were just trying to do their job. Come to Carmelo’s for the...

The frozen Margaret’s are awesome. Amenities are good, arcade is super, but it is very crowded and it is every man for himself. We were blessed to snag a table from some kind fellows. Ariana grande once came here or so we heard. The snow falls a plenty. Sort of an alienating place. In the soft light and the dark, all the hot people are playing pool, which is impossibly busy to connect. I had a sadly brief affair with an autistic fellow, whom I had my first encounter with here. Very belligerent and self aggrandizing, but we were bedfellows nonetheless, and I have to thank Carmelo’s for that. The music is loud now. Impossibly loud. Last time I was here a woman spilled Julian casblancas divorce secrets. She was under nda. Watch who you trust in this pit of snakes and thunder. You really have to watch your back. I wish you all the best of luck on your journey, and if it may bring you to Carmelo’s, it is a place that could only add some intrigue, I’ll give it that. Farewell....
