For anyone curious abt NATIONWIDE DELIVERY!!! TL;DR: it works and bagels are as you'd want/expect them to be. fast shipping times and well packaged bagels, at least to elsewhere on the east coast!
Now for the details: I've been a fan of Knickerbocker Bagel and it's been my go-to spot for bagels for YEARS. When I'd leave town to visit family, they'd always ask me to bring bagels from "that bagel shop you like" because truly, nothing else compares. Recently, my partner and I moved out of NYC and we wondered what we would do without our beloved bagel shop (no joke, it was a serious consideration). When we saw that Knickerbocker Bagel began offering nationwide delivery we were so excited and knew we'd need to try it out once we were here. It didn't take us more than a week before we ran out of the supply we brought with us, so an order was placed and of course I had my what-ifs (would things show up fresh, how long would it take, etc). On the section of the website for Nationwide Delivery, it gives a list of the types of bagel, the pricing, and so on. You can send a message (ours went to Jay) and someone will get back to you pretty quickly--for us, it was first thing the next morning and we'd messaged after closing, the night before deliveries go out. We requested a flavor that wasn't on the list (a personal favorite in my household) and were accommodated without having to jump through any hoops. We paid on Venmo and it was very straightforward (with the option to tip the shop which we love!) The order was placed Monday morning, sent out Monday evening (the tracking was fantastic) and arrived to us a few states away within 24 hours. The shipping costs were super reasonable to us (frankly not much more than I'd spend in a week getting them delivered on Uber Eats on busy mornings). But we're not too far away in New England! The bagels were packaged beautifully in insulated wrapping with an ice pack, and were ready for us to either put in the pantry or freezer, etc. in plastic sleeves. They are exactly as they'd be if you'd gone into the bagel shop and bought them right there. Knickerbocker Bagel continues to go above and beyond for their customers as they have done for years. They are a high-quality shop and the fact that we get to hold onto what has been one of our favorite parts of living in NYC makes the change feel that...
Read moreDisclaimer: normally KB is 5 stars In my book, but after a couple of really not good experiences, I have to leave this at two stars for now. I would love to change this in the future because I go here all the time and seldom have an issue.
I ordered the same thing I always order, and I always get tofu spread instead of real cream cheese because eating dairy will make me very sick. My bagel came out with real cream cheese and I could tell just by smelling it. Brought the bagel to the guy that made it and asked if it was real. He assured me it was tofu spread, so I went back to my seat. One bite and immediately I knew my suspicions were correct. Brought the bagel back to him, said “hey, this definitely has real cream cheese. I will get sick if I eat this. Please make me a new one”. The worker told me I was incorrect - I’ve been dairy free for a decade, I know the difference. He reluctantly made me another one that was (finally!!) definitely correct, again reminding me that his original one was right. Didn’t offer a refund or apology.
I have been working in food service for many, many years. This was a terrible display of negligence for customer health and experience.
This is the second time this has happened as well. The first time I brushed it off because I just bit right in and figured it was no big, but after no consideration for my health and being told twice I was wrong about what I was eating, I can’t ignore this anymore.
The man that helped me/us had white plugs in his ears. I would NEVER order from him again. The youngest man there with glasses and the older Latino man are the best — they’re always sweet, efficient, and careful. I don’t want to throw the entire staff under the bus because basically everyone else has given me incredible service.
Not coming back for a while. Hope customer safety becomes more of a priority. And hopefully the next couple times I do come back when I’m ready, I can change this review...
Read moreI’ve held off on writing a review for awhile but after today I really can’t stand it. The staff in the early morning is extremely rude to me every time I come in. They work extremely hard and I’ve seen them have some great interactions with other people but whenever I am in there it’s extremely awkward because they are short with me. I am in regularly so I’ve put up with this for months now. Today was the boiling point. I called to get an order for pickup and they said they don’t do pickup before 8am. I asked ‘oh not delivery. Can I order on the phone and go get it from you?’ The gentleman on the phone said ‘no we don’t do pick up before 8am’. I felt like there was a language barrier or maybe they just don’t do orders over the phone before 8am, either way no big deal. When I went there I ordered and we were good and as I was getting ringed up the staff started talking about ‘hombre por telefano’ and nodded chin up at me. The three gentleman started laughing and making more comments. It was so weird. I feel like I always try my best to be respectful and I typically tip close to 35-40% because they are a really well run business but I have just had several interactions that have been less than favorable that it isn’t someone having a bad day. If it’s something I’m doing I wish they’d tell me but I really can’t think of anything I’m doing to make the early morning staff so mean. Anytime I’m I. There after 10/11 it’s extremely friendly service! Which is why I’m still giving them 3 stars. Even the rude team member are great at there job in terms of speed and accuracy. I just wish I was given an explanation to why they can be short or...
