Duk Soo Goong — Restaurant in New York

We recently visited this restaurant and ordered the sashimi platter along with a full oyster, clam, and abalone platter based on the server’s recommendation. While we had high expectations, our experience was disappointing from start to finish.

The service was mediocre at best — no one checked in on us throughout the meal, and we had to flag someone down just to get water refills. For a place serving raw seafood, you’d expect attentive service and a focus on customer care, but that was definitely lacking.

More concerning, however, were the aftereffects. A few days after dining here, everyone in our party developed fever and chills, and one person even suffered from food poisoning. Based on the timing and symptoms, we strongly suspect the seafood was not fresh — potentially even reused — which raises serious food safety concerns.

All of the side dishes that they served were either old or recycled, but what really set us off was the steamed egg. The first one they brought us was completely burnt black, overcooked and inedible (it had to have been reheated multiple times on the stove). When I called the server over, he seem to already know what the issue was before I asked about it - why have the audacity to serve it in the first place? The new steamed egg came out and was significantly better, the difference was night and day.

The remaining side dishes were stale and dry, but we didn't bother to ask for new ones. Someone had previously mentioned the same issue of recycled side dishes in an earlier review, but we thought it was a one-off. I won't be...

Friendly neighborhood Korean spot with a good selection of stews. We ordered the haemul pajeon (seafood scallion pancake), samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), and boyangtang (black goat health soup).

The portions were all very substantial and we packed a lot to go. Decent selection of banchan, but not the most I've ever seen. The soups were very good. Very tender meats, and in the case of the goat stew, the herbs and vegetables took the gaminess completely out of the goat meat.
