Iâve tried so hard to really love this place. The aesthetic is beautiful and the European-vibes are definitely present with the tables and seating arrangement and outdoor options. Iâve never tried the food but it always looks great, whether pastries or hot food. Their happy hour wine is also solid, which isnât always the case when places offer $7 glasses.
But the coffee is just so incredibly mediocre. I drink black coffee and you can absolutely taste how sub-par the beans are. And my 16oz iced Americano is so watery and pointless with only 2 measly shots of espresso, as compared to the standard 4 shots which can be found at nearly every other coffee shop in New York. And forgive me for sounding like an old man (Iâm 30) but the music is always so much louder than a space of this size warrants. Everyone has headphones in so they can just try and focus, which defeats the purpose of coming to a public space to work or study or read.
Itâs like this place doesnât know what it wants to be. Itâs trying so hard to hold onto its Fumo roots as an elevated sit-down spot, but canât help but be heavily influenced (and rightfully so) by the undergrad CUNY energy right across the street. It always feels both busy and empty to me at the same time, but maybe thatâs just the âtism speaking.
All in all, itâs a passable spot to take advantage of some air conditioning and a well-lit euro-inspired aesthetic. But itâs definitely not my first, or second, or third pick in the neighborhood. I donât want to spend $6 on a coffee that tastes like it came from a bad bodega, and I donât want to have to put headphones on just to concentrate on something directly in front of me. I probably wonât come back after today, there are plenty of options in Harlem to become a regular...
Read moreStepping into this cafĂ© E Vino bar feels like being transported straight to Milan. The atmosphere and interiors capture that quintessential European charm, and the view of the historic City College building through the windows completes the illusion. Itâs as if youâve been whisked away to Italy without ever leaving the neighborhood. The wine selection is truly outstanding. My personal favorites include the Montepulciano from Tuscany and the refreshing Vinho Verde from Portugalâboth exceptional choices that highlight the depth of their menu. Their panini are simply divine, and the appetizers are equally impressive, showcasing the kind of quality and flavor youâd expect in a rustic Italian eatery. What sets this place apart is its warm and welcoming staff, who embody the genuine hospitality Italians are known for. Itâs rare to find such an inviting spot uptown, and itâs quickly become a gem in the area. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality, but the happy hour steals the show. Imagine sipping a glass of wine for just $8 or getting a bottle at half price; itâs the perfect way to unwind after a long day. The space itself is another highlight. Itâs spacious enough to host a birthday party, a casual gathering with friends, or even a work event. I was thrilled to discover they offer private event packages, and Iâm already planning to book the space for my...
