Good Hope — Restaurant in New York

A friend of mine who grew up in the neighborhood told me that customer service at most of the Caribbean restaurants in this area will be very different than what I am accustomed to. My first few times here proved her to be correct until they began to see me regularly, which I will explain at the end.

Now let's discuss the food. In my opinion, their jerk chicken is the best around as I have tried several restaurants in the area. Not that I found a bad place, but Good Hope's jerk sauce is really good. Unfortunately I do not like bones with my meals, so I stopped sampling the jerk meals of the neighborhood after having theirs.

I love their mac and cheese! I am a bit of a connoisseur, and their combination of cheese and spices makes it a very flavorful dish. For just $3, the portion is generous. It's a meal on it's own or you can make two small appetizers if you share it.

One weekend I was so sick that I hardly left my bed and was not well enough to cook. I struggled to walk the five blocks to get some air and my mac and cheese (I believe they deliver, but I have yet to do that). I spent $12 on four orders as I was lucky that they had a full, fresh tray! I enjoyed my food that weekend.

I went into good hope on 02/19/2014, when I tried to order the female at the cash register had the worst attitude, I said to myself she must be having a bad day so I continue to order my food(large oxtail rice n peas and medium goat white rice) while waiting on my food for about five minutes the female (her employees told me she is one of the owners) that I passed outside on my way in to the restaurant that was having a argument with someone in front of the restaurant WALKED INTO THE KITCHEN DID NOT WASH HER HANDS,DID NOT PUT ON GLOVES, AND SHE DID NOT PUT ON A HAIR NET(SHE HAS ALOT OF WEAVE ON HER HEAD) AND WENT STRAIGHT INTO THE POT AND STARTED TO SHARE OUT HER OWN FOOD I SAID TO MYSELF THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING WHERE IS THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT WHEN YOU NEED THEM I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO...

The food has always been good. The reason why I've given them a poor rating is because every time I've been there the customer service has been almost disrespectful. The woman taking the order doesn't let you finish placing your order, screams like she's at a fish market (and that's right over the food might I add), she rolls her eyes at customers and snarls at you like a beast. I brought some friends into Brooklyn after a photo shoot in the city because they wanted to try authentic West Indian food and they were extremely nasty to us all.
