I've lived in Williamsburg for the last 40 years. I love seeing cute little cafes. In the neighborhood. I walked past this one and decided to stop in. The coffee sounded great, and the menu looked very tasty. I walked in and wanted to try out the almond croissant and dolce de leche donut. The cashier told me if I wanted to order I had to order at the bar in the back. I walked over and was a bit confused seeing everyone there was either having an actual meal or a drink at the bar. Why would I be ordering a "to go" pastry at the bar??? The bartender was nice but when i asked if he had croissants he said he wouldnt know, whatever was at the front was what was there.. i asked well, should i just order at the front?? He said yes. I go back to the cashier and tell her what I want and she looks at me dumb founded as to why im asking her. I told her how confused I was. Where was i supposed to order??? She finally tells me it's because she closed out the drawer. By then, I was so annoyed I didn't want anything. I thought I found another gem. Sadly I didn't have a...
Read moreThere’s multiple businesses together here. There’s a market, and then right at the entrance is Guevera’s where you can buy pastries and drinks. It’s all vegan and the selection is amazing. I got the breakfast bomba, the churro pop tart and the scallion pancake danish. The breakfast bomba was basically a whole meal, it’s a bun filled with like a breakfast scramble. The pop tart was so delicious and the texture was just the right amount of crisp without being dry. I want to try more pop tart flavors from them in the future! I loved the croissant pastry for the scallion pancake danish, and I thought the flavor was unique. There was like a savory vegan cream cheese filling.
For sandwiches and other entrees, you walk to the back and there’s a bar/diner called Mekelburgs. They have vegan items from Guevera’s and also their own menu options that aren’t all vegan. I was told I could order pastries from this diner too if I just wanted to make a single transaction.
I got the breakfast torta, which was hefty and delicious.
All the staff was also friendly...
Read moreGuevara is okay for the price, small portions and nothing to rave about quality but would not go back because of the service. You are getting what you pay for in food quality and as a family of vegans who live in Williamsburg, there is way more better options for eating vegan nearby. But my son likes the doughnuts but the owner Alicia has a horrible attitude and makes it truly an uncomfortable experience when she is around. My son had to go to the bathroom to wash his hands after eating the tres leche and the owners Alicia Guevara questioned my husband for proof and then didnt believe him and went over to double check with the server of the cafe. She then embarrassed my son and I when we left with saying good bye in a condescending voice which my son then asked me if he did anything wrong when we were leaving. We are locals since 2001 of the Williamsburg North neighborhood and native nyers, finding out that the woman who harassed and yelled at my family is actually the owner made this even worse! Appalling -...
