My family has been coming to this place for years, over a decade and the food was always hit or miss. Sometimes, the food would be good and other times the food would be rather mediocre. In my most recent visit, the food was actually great but in our three visits before that, it wasn't that good. We like to order fried rice and sometimes you get a good amount of meat and sometimes they skimp. Sometimes the rice tastes nice and flavorful and sometimes it doesn't taste like much. Overall, no consistency which is why I normally would've gave this place 3 stars. I gave them one because in almost every visit we've had with them in the past few years, some of the food containers will have lids that aren't secured over the food. Like in our most recent visit, two out of the four containers of food had loose lids which meant that there was nothing stopping the food in the containers from spilling out into the bag. When taking the food out of the bag, I had to rip the bag from the side and hold the food from the bottom just so the food wouldn't spill out. I'd understand if this happened once or twice but given that it's a reoccurring issue, I won't cut them any slack. I've never had any issues with loose containers of food at Kaiteur, New Thriving, Jade or Caribbean Cabana. Just saying, Hibiscus can definitely do better

GUYANA šŸ‡¬šŸ‡¾ Eat the World NYC review: In a two month long search to find Queens' best cricket bar for a story that never happened, I kept returning to The Hibiscus in South Richmond Hill. There were stories of the owner coming in long before opening time with his friends to catch a feed from somewhere on the subcontinent, the kind of thing many European expats and football fans in this country do at early opening bars so they can watch English Premier League or Italian Serie A. ° A lot of the menu, like most Guyanese restaurants in this section of Queens, is devoted to Guyanese-style Chinese food, a mashup with beautiful results. The jerk pork lo mein ($11.95) is one of these beauties, luscious and fatty hunks of pork full of pepper and spice placed right on top of overly sweet western-style lo mein noodles. ° The combination works well, and so do the rest of the entrees and appetizers that toe this line. Every country with Chinese immigrants (probably every country in the world?) has their own versions of tweaked Chinese foods to cater to local tastes, and Guyanese is up there in the running for the best.

I was at this restaurant for the first time, Me and family, was celebrating a birthday, we were all hungry and couldn't wait to dig in, we waited about 40 mins to get our food, which I didn't really mind, but when the food arrived, I was somewhat disappointed, first of all, they brought the wrong food, we ordered the whole snapper and they give us salmon, and the waitress didn't even said anything to us, it was a light skin waitress, we wears glasses, she just left it there on the table as if we r dumb and wouldn't know the difference, then when we told her we ordered snapper, she took it back in the kitchen and 10 mins after told us they r out if the snapper, so we had no choice but to take the salmon, then the chicken fried rice came, it was the worst fried rice I ever tasted, it had no taste, then the roast duck fried rice came out , the duck had no taste at all, and was had lots of bone, the chicken tenders and fries was ok, then the portion of food was very small, so we ordered a pepper shrimp fried rice omg, I think even dog would refuse to eat that, the rice was flooded with oil, it was leaking with oil, and the shrimps looks as if it was boil, and very very sweet, as if they pour a set of sugar inside, come on what are these people trying to do , they want ppl to get high cholesterol, the was so bad, after eating it, my stomach feel very upset, I felt like throwing up, let me tell uall something what you would cook and eat yourself, plz do not cook and serve to other people ok, it's human being eating your food not animals, I was so disappointed in the food, I would never ever go back there to eat, it was the worst food I ever had, I took my family there to celebrate a birthday and we got pure garbage for food to eat, and apart from that, the food is very expensive and portion is very small, i would not advise anyone to go dine there, worst food I ever had , my mom have health problems and she had to eat that oily food , because she was hungry, my stomach is so upset right now after eating...

I've been going to Hibiscus since 2010 great service when Roshani was there. Order was always on point. If you had any special request she made sure it's written in the order slip so the kitchen knows. Not forgetting Lisa she was great too. Buttttttt now the new staffs they have there is so unprofessional and can't even take a proper order. I went in and place an order for a chicken fried rice and a cow heel soup with Quianna. My specific words to her 3 times was "Please make sure they chicken is fresh". She said sure. Come home and ready to eat my food and chicken is not fresh but over fried (meaning it was refried, hard, and dry). I called back and let them know then Quianna said she will make me a fresh order of chicken come back and pick it up. I then called back and ordered a Chinese fried rice and I'll pay the difference. I ran out the house without my wallet and only $10 in my pocket. I went to pick it up and spoke the the manager Theresa. Theresa calls herself a manager but have no qualities as one. Theresa states the difference is $12 and some change. I said ok but I'm not walking back home. I told theresa I will bring back the $3.00 tomorrow but she said, she cannot do that. I said but you guys messed up my order and I have to come back. Keep in mind I've been coming here since 2010. Theresa said I can either take the order of Chinese fried rice or the order of fried chicken($8+ for some 1/2 chicken that looks like left over pieces) so I took the fried rice. She said the difference is $3.00 so I gave her $10 and told her keep the $7.00 change apparently I should pay for the incompetent employees Hibiscus hires. Maybe Theresa thinks the restaurant would go out of business if she didn't get the $3, well I guess I just saved the business with my $7 change I gave to the restaurant. Please Hibiscus owner train your staff and you just lost a 7 years customer and my entire family...

This place can be good for only take out orders, though after today not so sure. Me and my boyfriend sat down to eat one time and the young woman acted as though she didn’t want to serve us. One of the other woman took over and boy was the other young woman happy when her friend came in and sat down. None of the servers bothered to check in after we received our food. I ate my entire meal without a second drink. Trust when I say me and my boyfriend are really good tippers cause I understand the purposes of getting tips because I used to be a waitress. We live off of tips to provide.

Today I attempted to place a take out order when they usually open at 11:30. Today they opened at 2pm. So inconvenient. They bothered not to inform customers or left a sign or nothing. I believe customer services makes a place thrive in its business. If there is poor customer service etiquette then there’s no room for business. Called to speak to the manager Therese’s and she was already gone after they opened at 2 pm.

Further, they have a second location on 221 street where first off if you go to the restaurants toy would sort of expect to get the same food. No not true. I placed an over the phone order at the 221 street for gizzards and liver and it was curry. The guy then proceeded to say you should have asked before ordering. Why would a resturaunt that carries the same branding carry different foods. That’s like going into one red lobster and having lobster then going into the next red lobster and ordering lobster but receiving shrimp instead. It does...
