i decided to pick up bc their descriptions on line do not provide details and i woulve done pick up anyway. i have dietary restrictions and cant ingest pork products. So my question was of that focus and i asked what ramens are recommended if I can NOT have any pork.
I was told the traditional beef ramen would work..... . Cool I decided to read the specifics on the menu behind him. Which i saw had pork broth listed as the base broth. 🤔
I then said thinking aloud after looking at the wall menu "But that specifically says pork broth" I then said, no thank you, and turned around to walk out when I was Lectured on they're only human. Whaaat? Uh ok. Sure. So am I. And as a customer its traditionally acceptable to get clarity for any product before purchase.
Certainly doesnt help to argue with a customer. But thats what this guy did. Lets set context.... there was two staff and me.. were ZERO customers in the restaurant, it was 5:20pm on a Monday.
Then he decided to tell me .... maybe im having a bad day and thats why I didnt give him a chance to explain. Naaaaah.... thats not it but ok. i came to buy ramen. You didnt know what to recommend properly and as a new potential customer who can get sick for trusting inaccurate descriptions, I decided to leave and tried to do so politely until i was criticized on my way out. 🤣 ruinded the opportunity for me to ever want to return sadly.
To Learn the ingresients of dishes is literally one of the most basic Restaurantaurs responsibility. If one is sold and fed something that's a dietary or health issue like me (or with others who avoid pork for religious reasons) you'd easily have a law suit if something goes wrong.
There was a woman on staff who tried to help...but the guy dominated. She probably would've done well to suggest something quite nice.... oh well.
That was my experience and sadly I can't comment on the food...
Ill be spending my money at Mizuumi up thr block for Ramen... plenty of other options for ramen too.... where questioning ingredients bc of dietary needs will be NOT be met with a dispute....as a customer.
Literally i walked into Mizuumi and in two questions and 5 mins my order placed and 10 mins later I was enjoying delicious ramen.
Consumers have an option and will more consistently opt to spend where there is good Service and Food. Being as rude as this place led me back to good ramen elsewhere instead of me switching to a...

Read moreAs a top reviewer who has tried countless ramen spots across NYC and beyond, I can say Hitto Ramen delivers a satisfying experience worth checking out if you’re on Staten Island. The ramen here is the star: the broth is deep and rich with layers of savory flavor that linger, the noodles are fresh with the right chew, and each bowl feels thoughtfully prepared.
The gyoza were crisp with a light, flavorful filling, a solid start to the meal. The pork belly buns were decent , tender pork, soft buns, though not the standout of the night, they still hit the craving. The portions were fair, and prices are reasonable for the quality.
The space is clean and welcoming with a relaxed, neighborhood vibe that makes it easy to settle in and enjoy your meal. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive without hovering, which I appreciate.
It’s clear this is a spot that cares about its food and its customers. Would love to see more variety in appetizers to round out the menu, but overall, Hitto Ramen is a reliable, comforting choice when you want a warm, satisfying meal without the trek into the city. Definitely worth a visit, and I...
