Discovered this gorgeous little restaurant in the area, I’ve been wanting to visit ever since I saw their store in Astoria. Have been a few times now, very reasonable prices for what you are receiving. I’ve ordered their birria tacos, chicken quesadillas, tortas, horchata and tried their tres leches cake too. My thoughts…… while the food is definitely more home style and offer more traditional Mexican dishes like chilaquiles, the tacos and quesadillas are missing depth of flavour, although getting these during their lunch specials is worth it. lunch specials in general are great value and you can opt to get horchata (specials include a drink), which was awesome! the horchata…. Forewarning, it’s the Mexican version so it’s not vegan friendly, it has condensed or evaporated milk in it. To non-vegans, this makes for an awesome treat, tastes like tres leches in liquid form! :D -tres leches cake is very big for $5. Their one is very heavy and sweet so it’s best shared between 2 people. the reason for my continuous visits……the tortas! Let me tell you….I’ve tried their chicken, steak, mexicana and al pastor. EVERY SINGLE ONE was delicious and filling. My favourite was definitely the mexicana, I would recommend omitting the cheese since it doesn’t do much flavour-wise and is a bit overwhelming. The little sauce it comes with just makes it perfect. The telera bread is phenomenal and they toast it so perfectly, giving it a slight crunch. The sandwiches are hefty so it was easily 2 sittings.

Read moreNot sure why I thought after enough practice they would get it right. Ordered a quesadilla that's suppose to come with guac and pico de gallo. Sent red and green sauce that I don't want and the shrimp is miniscule little rocks SMOTHERED in some red sauce. Get it together. How are you still in business?! Now just like the last time we have to go order something else and spend more money. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice I'm definitely the fool
Not really sure why this place is considered "authentic" nor how it gets such great reviews. Maybe it's a taqueria in the midst of a neighborhood that would believe it and THINKS it is what Mexican food should be. But from a family who knows better, it's terrible. Taco Bell has better food.
To start, the birria tacos were so dry and no sauce on them. That was bad enough but if we could dip em, then okay whatever, but they DONT come with the consomme though the menu even states it. The plate was literally a platTILLO- it was a mini plate.. literally nothing on it, the rice was about a spoonful. The shrimp and chicken tostadas were lacking toppings and hard as a rock. So flavorless, as well as the empanadas. Even most non Latinos can pull off an empanada with the right seasoning! We threw it all away after a few bites and wound up grabbing pizza, as it was too late to bother with anything else and we were just still so hungry. It sucks because it would have been great to have some good mexican food near by. But that's a pass for...
Read moreI made an order by phone to take out. This was my first time there. I was trying out their tacos (shrimp and steak), tostada (shrimp and steak), rice, beans, and pollo a la milanesa, and their orchata. Because this was a take out order, my experience might be different than others. Since the food was packed, the tostada and the tacos got soggy. The shrimps were well seasoned but the steak needed a bit more salt. The rise/beans/chicken was delicious. The orchata was sweet and refreshing. The restaurant is small but fits a few people to dine in. It's well decorated with bright colors, plants, and ordaments. The servant was welcoming and did his best to get to know me and engage in conversation. He was very nice. He gave me some coupons and the menu, asking me to come back. If I try this restaurant once again, definitely will do it as dine in and not take out (food...
