Huge potential. Massive letdown.
We came for burgers (it's Joseph's Dream Burger, after all) and expected a burger. Like the kinda thing you'd pull off a bbq grill: ground meat, juicy, hearty, with a satisfying "bite."
(Every single place I've been to, from cheap fast-food joints to high end steakhouses, always met my expectation for this simple standard: a patty made with ground meat, grilled and juicy.)
The burger at this place was more like a casserole-patty: mealy, mushy, and lacking any resemblance to a beef burger. I've never had such an experience before.
Are they trying to keep prices low ($14-18) and stretching the meat by adding eggs or other fillers? I don't know. Venues in the neighborhood manage to deliver a solid sandwich without fillers for $19. It really doesn't bother me how a joint runs their kitchen as long as the end product is good. This wasn't.
I just wanted a burger and did not get one.
Side notes: I was able to taste the gas in the char marks. Also, I asked for the sandwich to be cut, and they didn't cut through the bottom bread, so when I lifted one side, everything cane up and then fell apart. Also, automatically including a tip (was it 15%?) at the kiosk felt a bit weird.
I will be visiting again, perhaps in a few weeks, and hope that they figure out...
Read morewould you believe it?! I ordered from their website after midnight (literally at 12:17) and the delivery got scheduled for 12pm the next day! Apparently the website closed after 12 but the website still lets you order and takes your money. So I texted the system back to cancel my offer. After which I received a ring and had the pleasure of picking up a phone call from Yaakov, an employee of JDB. He went above and beyond so promptly. He took ownership and took initiative. Had said, “hey I know you canceled your order, but don’t!” I was confused and tried to explain the situation, that my order was scheduled for the following day but I meant to order now cuz I’m hungry. he took responsibility right away and let me know that the system shuts down at 12 and that he ALREADY had ordered another delivery service to come bring me the meal. I was so delighted. He was polite and gave me his best wishes and hoped that I enjoyed my meal. I was so happy about it I had to come write to you. This Yaakov should get a raise, and I will be checking in to see to it that it happens. He seems to be juggling a lot and people in crown heights can be very unruly and rude. He’s a professional and if you’re lucky he’ll be running the store one day. He cares about the people, and the people can taste, it even...
Read moreThe food here is amazing! I was impressed by the portions and the prices. I would definitely eat here again and choose this as my new go-to spot when I need an affordable quick dinner. The fried chicken bucket is so good - reminds me of izzy's fried chicken that used to be open - it's something you can't get anywhere else in Crown Heights. The Joseph's fries are like homemade Pesach french fries, they are my favorite fries from any restaurant! I got a salad that came with a huge portion and the lamb burger was also huge (and good - a mix of lamb of beef that was not too strong of a taste). This is perfect when you want good, affordable food. Big...
