Had to give a 5-stars to this place. During winter time, this is my go-to places (3/4 times a week). Although it’s a Japanese ramen place, they did put a their uniqueness/identity into it. When we discuss how good ramen noodles it, we usually talk about broth, noodle and meat. The broth is not as thick/strong flavor as traditional Japanese broth, which let us drink less water when we feel too salty. The noodles are firm but not hard and the Chasu meat are soft with good balance of fat and lean. If you watch closely, they use hot flames to grill the meat before they serve, this will just drizzle a little extra fat from the meat and adding a new flavor of grill. Their buns are really good, the mixture of sauce and meat are perfect. The only drop back is the bun itself. Because they cooked it first and freeze it as preparation, when they reheat it again before serving, the bottom part of the bun (usually thinner than the rest) will lose elasticity and broke itself easily. This eventually leak the sauce. After all, you want to have all the good stuff. The real hidden delicious is their kimchi fried rice. The place is definitely a Japanese/Korean fusion. Their Kimchi is gentle with flavor (you can find it from kimchi ramen). The fried rice is well cooked and the caviar on it is amazing. More importantly, sunny side up egg provide you the perfect sauce to the rice, which make the whole dish less dry. This gotta be the best fried rice in town and I’ve never seen others do it like that. This place provide quality food on a very stable level. All of their cooks can provide the same flavor of the fried rice. I highly recommend everyone to try it out. One last thing needs to be called out, they raise the price for all menu recently, the food is kind of expensive $16-18 for ramen. 10 for buns (2). But this is...
Read moreWhen we went, we had three adults and one little girl. The little one has a very limited diet and we quietly brought a small container for her to eat while the adults each ordered off the menu. After we pulled it out for her, the waitress noticed and came over and loudly informed us that they don't allow outside food. I apologized and politely explained the situation. The waitress left and then came back a few minutes later, angry I had not put the container away. This made the little girl almost cry, knowing she had caused this fuss somehow. I would have left but the adults had all already ordered and what was I going to do, force a little girl to sit there hungry while we all ate in front of her because she was unable to eat anything on the menu? Make her sit outside by herself on a city street? I was surprised the server was making an issue over it. She then brought over the woman who was behind the counter (the manager?) who informed us that she would make an exception just this once. I thought to myself, no worries, because I would not come back after seeing their customer service in action. All that said, the ramen was very tasty and the counter chefs looked on sympathetically while we were being harassed by the wait staff. If it had not been for the service, I would have rated this place higher. However, I would be wary of going to this place if you wanted an overall nice experience. You sort of expect more when paying ~$20 per bowl. We ate as quickly as possible, all feeling tense over the bad experience. There are plenty of amazing ramen places in the city, so I'll be going...
Read moreThis is my first experience at Jun-Men Ramen Bar and I would say it was pretty good. The space is not big, but still fit a good amount of people. Luckily the time I went (early Thursday evening) wasn’t too busy and packed. My friend and I ordered two sake-tails to start and they were refreshing and had a good amount of sake. As appetizers, we ordered the pork buns and crunchy shrimp. One order of pork bun comes with 2, so it was perfect - one per person. There was more than one piece of pork belly in it and combining it with the bag and pickles made it so good. The crunchy shrimp was crispy and flavorful despite it being drenched in sauce. The sauce did get overwhelming at one point, but was still good. We then shared the Uni Mushroom Mazemen and it was delicious. I do wish there were more pieces of Uni compared to the noodles. There was definitely a lot of the mushroom umami flavor throughout. To end the meal, we had the matcha cheesecake, which was just okay. Not the best I’ve had. The texture wasn’t as smooth as I expected and the slices were pretty small. The meal overall was satisfying. A little on the expensive side, but no surprise there since it is located...
