Time wasted and money lost. I can't even say the food was mediocre, it was literally just 'OK. We waited well over an hour for our food and 30 min in, we received frequent updates that our food was coming out in 5min......45 min later the food finally came out. I started placing a delivery order from Domino's next door so the kids could eat, but cut it since we were told the food was ready....it wasn't.
Kanu Brunch Salad: advertised as having avocado and Parmesan cheese, neither were in our salad-we received a house salad.
Vegan Delight: advertised as having chick peas and okra. It didn't. It consisted of a bag of frozen mixed vegetables (little square carrots and all) in a curry sauce.
Kanu Island Burger: cheese is optional, we didn't request this, but it was on the burger. Asked for medium well, the burger was served well beyond well done. My son had 2 bites and said his stomach hurt.
Staff offered to get us a free round to make up for the wait and everything, but we didn't want alcohol. We were then charged for the 'refills' of non-alcoholic drinks we were asked if wanted. When we questioned about that and why we were charged for bottled water when we asked for tap water, we were told they're 'still having issues' with the water and can't use the tap. I don't know what those water issues were but I am very concerned as I'm sure the kitchen is not cooking with bottled water while they resolve these 'issues'.
It was clear that our table was not happy with the communication and lack of transparency, amongst other things. Everyone hides behind the servers. Not once did a manager or the chef come out to apologize or just explain what the issue(s) were. Absolutely no accountability. To add insult to injury, they place gratuity automatically on the bill, as if the service was good.
Needless to say, I will not be back here and I would advise friends and enemies to spend their hard earned $ at other establishments in the area.
*In reply to the owner, it did not seem to be the waitress’ fault, she did what she could. If there was a manager there, they would have known there was a problem. The restaurant was not crowded and all of the staff that were around the tables/bar knew there were issues because they could see it and the waitress had informed them and the...
Read moreTHEY ARE NOT READY TO DO BUSINESS. I came here for my friend's birthday. The service started off really well. The server (Nush) was attentive, checking in and pouring our drinks. However, trouble began after we ordered a $25 refill on our hookah, and it came back as weak as when they took it. The manager came, checked, and fixed it swiftly. We asked for the bill because 1 of the girls had to leave. I didn't even complain that they added Group 4+ gratuity charge because 1 friend who joined very late at the table and ordered his drink at the bar. We settled the bill, and the server told us we could order drinks at the bar. I went to the bar, and the bartender (Anissa) with an attitude said to order from your server. I waited a bit, tried to order from the server again, and Nush again told me to order at the bar. So I got up, went to the bartender, and explained the server stated to order from you and what i wanted. Anissa, the bartender with attitude said well I can give it to you in a togo cup. I asked why am I getting it in a togo cup. The bartender just kept repeating she'll give it to me in a togo cup. I stopped the manager. The manager (Edwin) told me the server told the bartender not to serve us anymore. There was a lot of back and forth. The bartender was very rude. The owner, sitting at the bar the whole time I was arguing with the bartender and manager, finally spoke up, saying the bunch was 90 minutes and your 90 minutes are up. WHICH HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ME ORDERING THE DRINK THAT I WAS TO PAY FOR. I walked away after that because I didn't want to argue about getting service or cause a disturbance. The owner then came to the table, trying to reiterate the same garbage he stated to me at the bar. I said "Sir I was done speaking with you, I just want to enjoy the rest of the hookah." He said,"Oh, yeah, you're done speaking to me, alright." Two minutes later, the bouncer asked us to leave. I HAVE NEVER BEEN ASKED TO LEAVE A RESTAURANT UNTIL YESTERDAY. The restaurant barely had a patronage present. It was not like they needed the table. There were plenty of tables around, and it wasn't close to closing time. Yet, we were rushed and pushed out as soon as we paid the bill. If you decide to eat here, DONT PAY IF YOU WISH TO KEEP THE...
Read moreFood is ok but way too over priced. The happy hour menu is mis-leading. For example, $2.00 for a drum stick, $4.00 for 1 taco, drinks are not really 2 for 1 etc. The owner charges 25% gratuity (even if you have poor service), if you pay cash you are charged a credit card processing fee, short staffed, additional charges / fees when you get the bill. I attended for a party & was told its only 90 minute seating.. you have to go ( we got kicked out) but owner never communicated when the host reserved the space. Will not return again.
Since you responded... let me continue.. it was not my party, I was a guest at the party. 2 of my family members sat at the bar, paid with cash and was charged. The asked why were they charged, the waitress told them the system is set up like that. So this business is ripping customers off. How dare you charge cash paying clients a credit card fee. Stop ripping people off! No reason 25% gratuity was charged. No other restaurant In NYC charges 25% gratuity per person to everyone in the venue! Then you kick the people out and tell them they have to go, have your cleaners removing drinks without permission. You are disrespectful to your customers. You rely on customers purchasing alcohol beverages and not keeping track of what's on the reciept. Manipulation!!!! 2 of my people complained. How dare you have it automatically generated to charge cash paying customers an cc fee. Your staff told us its in your system! I'm reporting this place to rhe better business bureau. Your problem is you think refunding is going to...
