I know I'm picky but this place was disappointing to say the least. I ate there with my family and all of us agreed we would not choose to come back here. The service was good, and the staff were polite, which is why I am giving two stars. I'll start at the beginning. The sauces for the agedashi tofu and gyoza were both extremely bland, but otherwise these dishes were ok. Seaweed salad was good. Drinks also fine. Then entrees came. One family member ordered duck breast and was given a thigh and a leg, however she didn't mind and ate it anyway. Two family members ordered a seafood platter to share, and you could just see the disappointment in their faces. The lobster was "chewy and rubbery," as was the rest of the dish. The boiled eggplant tasted "like old fish" and we all took a while to figure out what it was. The words "extremely overcooked" were used a lot. One of them actually stopped eating the seafood dish after a few bites and opted to split someone else's General Tso's chicken, which was apparently "just ok." I ordered two sushi rolls; a spicy crunchy salmon roll and a shrimp tempura roll. I chose a simple order since not a single specialty roll sounded the least bit appealing. I am not a fan of lettuce or cream cheese in my sushi. The crunchy spicy salmon was in no way spicy, and the fish tasted warmer than it should have...nothing in that roll is warm, so why was the fish warm? Unsettling. Next, the saddest shrimp tempura roll...I feel I should mention that shrimp tempura rolls are one of my favorite things to eat. But this roll made my tastebuds want to cry. It was stuffed with warm, stringy iceberg lettuce, and it a strange sour taste that I didn't recognize and couldn't place. Also unsettling. I will not be going back here and I will be warning my friends against this place. I think it is probably mediocre, but in a neighborhood with amazing food a stone's throw away, to eat here seems like a waste. Geido on Flatbush is fantastic, and Inaka on Vanderbilt is...
Read morenot sure if this is affiliated with all the other kiku' s in the neighborhood, but this place was bustling with a bunch of people on a Friday night. night mostly people who are laid back and cozy and overall food tastes great and presentation wise could be better, but it was a good place to have some nice tasty noms. we had the salmon avocado, that you'll avocado, and the crunchy spicy tuna roll which were all very good, but the crunchy was probably the best in terms of flavor and texture. then we had the chicken udon and the broth was lacking that umami flavor, but the noodles were very bouncy and nice and portion size was great. we had some green teas that were bagged green teeth. oh yeah! kani salad can't go wrong with that....
Read moreMy family loves Kiku Sushi! We have been going and ordering from here for years. The size of the dishes are really large, you get many sides with the entrees (soup, salad, rice) and the quality of the food is top notch. For dinner I often get the Green Lady roll, dumplings, Wild Mushroom soup. My toddler loves the noodle dishes and edamame :) My husband who is not a sushi fan in general really enjoys the chicken teriyaki entree. Kiku's atmosphere is very calming and never too crowded, so we enjoy sitting down as a family. I've ordered lunch specials for delivery while working at my studio and the price, quality and promptness cannot be beat. I highly recommend...
