3 Must-Try K-Drama Foods in One Bowl? What Kind of Heavenly Deal is This Lunch Special?

Sunday after church we gathered at Korean Noodle House with a large group of 11 to enjoy a meal together. We've been here on week days, evenings and often on Sundays. When you enter through the front entrance the main dining area spans left and right with the cash register located towards the back on the right side. To the right of the cash register is an entrance to a modest side dining area. As you enter there is a private room with newly install hanging barn doors which can be closed. What I notice today was they did some remodeling of the walls in the side dining area with paint and paneling. A nice refresh which made look new as it was previously looking aged. It is overall a low key atmosphere though. We were seated in the side room as we had a larger group and the main dining area was already 65% occupied by diners. The walls were decorated also with TVs playing K-Pop or K-Drama in the past. Today I noticed the volume was very low or off. We took our time to chat, teh wait staff brought out hot tea, I asked for cold water for a few of us. They brought out the usual Korean side dishes; Kimchee, Yellow Radish slices, and raw Onion chips with doenjang (fermented soybean paste). It was comfortable to hold conversations as restaurants with open spaces may bounce sounds causing it to be loud making conversations difficult. The tables and chairs were sturdy, clean, and did not rock or creak. If you have a younger child with you they have highchairs. The wait staff were courteous and attentive. If you speak Mandarin you'll surprised that our wait staff she spoke fluently or Korean and English. We ordered the following dishes: Ja Jang Myun (짜장면 / 炸酱面) or Beef Gan Ja Jang Myun (소고기간짜장 / 牛肉炸酱面) - two of use ordered this (either Noodle with black bean sauce or Noodle with black bean sauce and beef) comes covered with sauce, chopped onion pieces, and possibly small bit of ground beef. I believe it's egg noodle and they are long so it's advisable to cut them with the scissor that's provided. Which ever one it was it was yummy. Soy Garlic Fried Chicken (마늘간장치킨 / 酱油大蒜炸鸡) - the Soy garlic fried chicken is prepared with the sauce on the fired chicken, but you can have it on the side so you can dip it. Usually we order this to share s a family, but today I wanted to enjoy it myself, but I did save half to bring home for my son. Jam Ja Myun (짬짜면 / 炸酱面炒码面) - 1/2 noodle with black bean sauce, 1/2 noodle with spicy chop suey soup. This is a favorite that is often ordered by my wife and kids. There were three other dishes that were ordered, but they were new and I didn't catch the names of them and you will have to just figure it out by showing the pictures to the wait staff. One thing you should consider is what your spicy preference is. Get an idea from the wait staff by asking them questions because there is not way to convey how spicy is spicy. Yes they may have the dish labeled as spicy and they may tell you it is spicy, but if you have a higher tolerance for spiciness you might be disappointed and I suggest you go in with an open mind and experience it. Then the next time you'll have a realistic expectation and able to express it to friends who you know well their spicy tolerance is ;) * I'd recommend any of the dishes we ordered, but my top favorite is the Soy Garlic Fried Chicken alone or as a side dish to share. Normally I'd have provide pictures of all our dishes, but because my friend's wife just got the newest Samsung I asked her to capture all the dishes. Payment - Credit Cards work but I don't know if they don't accept AmEx or Discover which sometimes happens, and cash is king. I gave Korean Noodle House 5 Stars based on the food, service, and atmosphere. There are many Korean Restaurants from Flushing to Bayside along Northern Blvd., but this is our go to locations as it's close to home and for friends to join us. I'd rate it $, but I'd keep in mind that prices have slowly been creeping up.

We were visiting from Atlanta where everyone always assumes the best Korean food can be found, but I politely disagree. Northern Boulevard, with all its humble storefronts where some of the best and tastiest hidden treasures can be found. I thought I knew where the best jjajangmyun, or black bean noodles, could be found, but in the time I've lived outside of New York, this noodle house has apparently and recently gained the reputation of the best jjajangmyun in town. There are tons of combination platters in case you're craving a variety of the most popular plates (with cleverly sectioned off bowls that keep the two entrees separate), but I went straight for my tried and true order of black bean noodles and especially appreciated that there was a vegetarian variety for non-meat eaters like me. I've never seen whole broccoli florets in my black bean sauce but I appreciated the healthful touch. Plus everyone else at the table who ordered the regular kind seemed to be gazing enviously at my verdant pops of veg. The noodles are fresh, with just the slightest toothsome quality, and the sauce was just as delicious as my parents promised it'd be. We also ordered some of the spicy battered shrimp, which ended up being a little softer than I'd like, but when a dish is so saucy, it's hard to maintain a crunchy batter. This was our very first meal after our plane touched down in New York, and it'll likely be where I have every first meal henceforth when I visit.

We used to love and order from here all the time with the family or for business or but we will no longer be coming back here.

I came in with two young children to have lunch and the restaurant was not busy with a few tables but the food took a very long time to come out. There was another table next to us who was seated and ordered after us and their food somehow came out first. We ordered shrimp fried rice, jjamppong, and tangsooyook and the table next to us ordered specialty dishes. I approached the waitress asking how this happened. She told me that the food comes out in the order that was received, I explained to her that we had sat and ordered first, she then went to look at the receipts to check the time and had nothing to say. She pretended to go back to check on the food, never came back nor was there an apology for saying what she said. I was pretty upset at the whole situation especially with young children, so I called a few hours later, the guy who picked up the phone said his name is Mr. Lim, his attitude is so nasty I'm not sure how the owners have not noticed it already. I explained the whole situation, he was actually sitting there looking at his phone while this happened so he knew exactly who I was when I brought it up. He started to get angry on the phone, apologized annoyingly as if he was forced to. He even asked me if it was something that I should get so angry about, I couldn't believe my ears, excuse me, I have every right to get angry for whatever the reason is. I don't think that's something he should be asking any customer. He also said to me multiple times with his nasty attitude, “I apologized to you so what else do you want?," so I asked him if he's been to a restaurant and he's the customer and I came to him the way he did, how he would feel. He continued to say whatever he wanted to say, getting angry, talking back, and not listening to anything that I was saying. His attitude just got me so angry, I had asked to speak with the manager and he said there is none. Mr. Lim, who's sitting at the cashier maybe needs to get customer service 101 in check. This is not the first time having to deal with bad service and bad attitude from here and the food is not even all that great. I'm not sure how a restaurant or any business can function without a manager.

For those of you who are thinking of trying out this restaurant, please save your time and your wallet. You can find the same type of food they are serving, with better quality, better price and better customer service in about 20 other places along...

Weird stench coming off as soon as you walk in really turns my appetite off. They have decent spicy seafood noodle but I think I'm done with this place. Too many geezers who lost senses of taste and hearing abound, probably giving this restaurant a short life support that it needs. I would say their heydays were over about a decade ago.

Update to unprofessional responses from the owner Your low ratings speak volume about how your business is run. I guess your 3.8 rating is all lies to you. If you can't take criticism from your customer, then you are in the wrong business and should pursue other career choices. Your accusatory tone and attitudes towards customers who leave negative reviews really highlight how you run your small business. I'm a small business owner myself and stand behind my product and work ethic and if there is room for improvement you should take that negative feedback and improve upon it. Your restaurant stinks as a customer for over 10 years at your place when there is a handful of other korean Chinese restaurants I chose yours over them because somehow my wife liked yours better but not personally. My last straw was that whatever you clean your restaurants with or maybe you have sewage back up problem, it gives off very unpleasant strong stench from the floor or the tables and it kills my appetite as soon as I walk in. Perhaps you have become nose blind because you are there. Your nasty attitude won't serve you well in our somewhat tight knit korean community and words will spread like wildfire. I took this personally because you are now accusing me of wrongdoings however I won't stoop down to your level. Perhaps it's time to reflect upon your growth thanks to our community and tone down your hostility. Dont bite the hands that feed you was what wise one...
