I recently had the pleasure of visiting a newly opened Thai gem in Astoria, Queens called KROB KREUNG KROB ROS (3310 28th Ave, Astoria, NY). If you’re craving the authentic taste of Thai home-cooked meals, this place is a must-try!
From the moment I walked in, it was clear that KROB KREUNG KROB ROS is all about bringing those comforting, home-style flavors straight to your table. Their name beautifully captures the essence of Thai cuisine – a perfect balance of sour, sweet, creamy, and salty.
Here’s what we tried:
Drinks: Cha Yen Thai Iced Tea Nom Yen Thai Pink Milk Thai Beer
Small Plates: Fried Marinated Chicken Wings Steamed Mussels with Thai Spicy Seafood Dipping Sauce Tod Mun Hua Plee (banana blossom and red curry fritters)
Main Dishes: Khao Hor Bai Bua Siam (seafood wrapped in a lotus leaf with rice, sweet pork sausages, scallops, jumbo shrimp, cilantro, shiitake mushrooms, and salted egg yolk) Khao Na Neua (grilled ribeye steak, garlic rice, marinated egg, fried shallots with Thai spicy dipping sauce) Chicken Pad See Ew (flat rice noodles with egg and Chinese broccoli
Side Dishes: Sautéed greens and sticky rice
Dessert: Khao Niew Pheuk (Thai sweet sticky rice with taro)
Every dish was packed with flavor and felt like a warm hug from Thailand. If you’re in the area or just looking for a true taste of Thailand, definitely...
Read moreThis is such a sweet spot in Astoria! They have taken the old spot of the fish market on 28th ave that is now on 30th ave and I’ve been really excited to see what business would occupy the space as it has been up for rent for a while.
We stopped by for their lunch special, which is $16-21 based on the type of meat you choose to have with either your noodles/rice entree and that total includes the appetizer of the day as well as a dessert!
I ordered the Beef Pad Se Ew ($17), which came with fluffy scallion pancakes and a delicious dipping sauce and the dessert was khao tom mad.
My noodles were really well cooked and not sticky at all and really well flavored! I really enjoyed the pancakes too and took the dessert to go.
The interior is very minimal in design but it actually works and I really enjoyed the atmosphere.
Our waitress was very attentive but let us have a moment before each time she checked in which I really appreciated!
They have a much more expansive menu if you don’t want to opt in to the lunch special, which has a great range of dishes and is all very well priced.
10/10 would recommend for a quick lunch/dinner catch up with friends or for an easy affordable lunch that will fill you up and leave you with some...
Read moreVery friendly and hospitable hostess/waitress for the soft opening! Unique vibe inside with cute old school Thai music playing. We've been excited to welcome a new Thai place a little closer to our apartment. I think it beats the other Thai place on 30th Ave in terms of taste but it is pricey. The Khao Soi Gai dish is solid, though Kam Rai Thai's on 28th Ave is better. However, Kam Rai Thai's is a substantially fattier dish with fried chicken served on top of the noodles and they are overall a little more expensive than here.
I never had Thai style deviled eggs in fish sauce before (Kai Loog Keay). It was served with rice on the side and though $18 for eggs and rice seemed pricey to me I am glad I tried it. It was delicious!
One of the best mango sticky rice I have had in the city so far. Mango was perfect and just the right coconut milk to rice ratio for me.
Thai pink milk was interesting. It tasted to me like a carbonated version of carton strawberry milk from my childhood.
Our tablemate enjoyed his chicken Pad Thai.
Having lived in the UES for 5 years, I was bemoaning the lack of good Thai food close by. I am pleased to have Krob Kreung Krob Ros open and available. We...
