Used to get dessert from this place all the time, but their fruit-based desserts have grown very hit-or-miss over the last 6-7 months. Last night’s purchase, though, was the final straw. I walked into the bakery and ordered a slice of coconut pie and an all-strawberry fruit tart. Knowing how inflation is hurting small businesses, I tipped them 20%, bringing my total to around $15. Once I got home with the dessert, I realized the coconut pie tasted like usual (a little dry from sitting in the display case), but the fruit tart was rancid mush. The fruit tart tasted was so off-putting I called the bakery to suggest they remove the other fruit tart from the display case so someone wouldn’t get sick. After nobody answered the phone I wrote to them privately on social media, but received no response. This lack of customer acknowledgment kind of jives with what I’ve experienced before. I walked in and ordered a multi-fruit fruit tart in late May and had to walk all the back to tell them it tasted funny. The guy behind the counter told me to buy a new tart if I didn’t like that one. I was like, “Ehh, maybe he was having a bad day.” I thought nothing of it, but didn’t make any more purchases with them, until last night. Normally, I shy away from writing reviews which aren’t complimentary, but I’m hoping one of the owners of the bakery reads this and takes steps to improve the quality of their desserts, as well as acknowledge customer concerns in a timely manner.

We tried the must have New York cheesecake & the Oreo cheesecake from New York bakery cafe , and while it was good, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The texture was a bit too dense for my liking, and the flavor was a bit too sweet for my taste. The crust was also a bit dry and crumbly, which was disappointing. That being said, the portion size was generous, and I was able to share it with a friend. The atmosphere in the shop was cozy and inviting, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, while I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to try new york bakery cafe again, it's still worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a sweet treat.

There are SO many options here. Cute café with so much character and locals elders who come by to have pastry and coffee. The cakes are so pretty with plentiful Greek pastries. I ordered the Napoleon fruit and de leches fruit cup. The napleon fruit tart was SO GOOD, but the fruit cup was a miss for me. it was soft and over week. There was not much fruity flavor to it. The napoleon fruit tart was A+ the pastry was so good and not too oily or heavy. It was just perfect with fruit in-between layers.

I tried their mini baklava, they do offer the standard size as well. I found that the pastry of it had little taste, and the honey on the bottom layer of the baklava has about 95% of the baklava's flavor. When I bought it, I was hoping for more than a pleasant honey taste. The mini baklava I bought was weighed and the charge was based on its weight, which was $1.80. My food rating of two stars is based on this baklava only.

Lots of choices at this Astoria bakery. The service is good. I got the Spinach Pie and a Portokalopita (orange cake) to go but they do have seating. The portions are big. The prices are reasonable. I have to go back and try some of their other goodies.
