Used to get dessert from this place all the time, but their fruit-based desserts have grown very hit-or-miss over the last 6-7 months. Last night’s purchase, though, was the final straw. I walked into the bakery and ordered a slice of coconut pie and an all-strawberry fruit tart. Knowing how inflation is hurting small businesses, I tipped them 20%, bringing my total to around $15. Once I got home with the dessert, I realized the coconut pie tasted like usual (a little dry from sitting in the display case), but the fruit tart was rancid mush. The fruit tart tasted was so off-putting I called the bakery to suggest they remove the other fruit tart from the display case so someone wouldn’t get sick. After nobody answered the phone I wrote to them privately on social media, but received no response. This lack of customer acknowledgment kind of jives with what I’ve experienced before. I walked in and ordered a multi-fruit fruit tart in late May and had to walk all the back to tell them it tasted funny. The guy behind the counter told me to buy a new tart if I didn’t like that one. I was like, “Ehh, maybe he was having a bad day.” I thought nothing of it, but didn’t make any more purchases with them, until last night. Normally, I shy away from writing reviews which aren’t complimentary, but I’m hoping one of the owners of the bakery reads this and takes steps to improve the quality of their desserts, as well as acknowledge customer concerns in a timely manner.

We tried the must have New York cheesecake & the Oreo cheesecake from New York bakery cafe , and while it was good, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The texture was a bit too dense for my liking, and the flavor was a bit too sweet for my taste. The crust was also a bit dry and crumbly, which was disappointing. That being said, the portion size was generous, and I was able to share it with a friend. The atmosphere in the shop was cozy and inviting, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, while I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to try new york bakery cafe again, it's still worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for a sweet treat.

Ever since I moved to Astoria Queens, I’ve been coming to this place for the last six years. I understand that there’s other bakeries out there but nothing like this place. Every time I come here, I feel greeted by staff. I feel very accommodated and spoiled. Everything is always made fresh and can we talk about the coffee for a second amazing! The music is relaxing, and the place is clean! Jeta is a gem to have here! I feel like she is the engine that keeps this place running and runs it with such love and care for the customers. Whenever you have a chance, don’t walk, run here!

I keep seeing people say this place is Greek, but since I only order delivery, I’ve never seen them in person—though I highly doubt it. Based on their menu, I’d guess the owners might be from the Middle East.

They offer a selection of Turkish/Middle Eastern desserts, which I ordered from Uber Eats tonight. Now, desserts are desserts, of course, but as a Turkish person, I know how they’re supposed to taste and look in Turkey and the surrounding region. And come on now… the only reason I would think they’re Greek is probably because they put cinnamon in ekmek kadayıfı! I’ll get to that in a moment.

(And if they are Greek—guys, you already own the entire history of humanity, so maybe leave Middle Eastern desserts to the people who actually make them best? Just kidding… kind of. :))

Now, let’s talk about what I ordered: • Ekmek Kadayıfı – The name literally means bread in Turkish. It’s supposed to be made with a specific kind of bread, but instead, they used phyllo dough—come on! That’s what kadayıf is made of, not ekmek kadayıfı. On top of that, there was cinnamon and orange juice in it, which is not how it’s supposed to be made if you’re calling it “ekmek kadaifi “ and make it sound like Turkish version of making it, it just wasn’t done right. And let’s be real—if you translated it into Greek, it would be something like Psomí Kadaifi… but where’s the psomí in this dessert, you all? Kadaifi is not Psomi… LOL! • Şambali (a.k.a. Sam Tatlısı) – This is where you supposed to use a hint of orange flavor and be made with more semolina flour, giving it a denser yet moist texture. Instead, it was huge and lacked that distinct orange note. • Profiterole – Not good at all. I won’t even go into it. • Kadayıf – It was super dry. Like, really dry. Nope, sorry, not good at all.

So overall, I’d give this place 1-2 stars purely for the effort, but I’m being generous and giving it 4 just in case they really are Greek, as a sign of my appreciation :)

I would not reorder the desserts I ordered tonight but I would def Try other desserts in...
