La Cabaña — Restaurant in New York

I attempted to buy some of their famous chicharron de pollo but they've tried to play this non Spanish speaking young lady. It's a fairly small restaurant and there was a long line with most people ordering to go. I tried to figure out what to order via yelp because there was no English menu. I knew I wanted the chicken but I didn't know what it came with and NONE of the staff spoke English. The worker told me the chicken alone was $8. I asked a customer who spoke English and he explained the combo came with yucca and sautéed onions which is what he ordered and he paid $10.

When it was my turn to order again, the cashier told me my order was $10 just for the chicken. By then all the cooks behind the counter were looking and laughing as I attempted to ask him why my order was $10 with no sides. He didn't care he just shook his head and said no $10. I happily closed my purse and walked out. There are way too many Latino food spots in the area for them to try and jip me. My family and I been eating fried food from this place for over 20 + years and today I had my first monfongo and I was extremely disappointed, the mofongo had barely or if any garlic and chicharrón was like carne frita I barely saw any chicharrón if it was supposed to be it , very dry and on the shrimp mofongo I don’t recommend anyone getting it here, ask exactly how is made before you regret it, I order one for my wife cause she wanted one and they gave me a mofongo (shrimp mofongo) with Chinese fried shrimps, if anyone ever order Chinese food and order fried shrimps w/ pork fried rice you know what I’m saying, very disappointed with the mofongo and the price even hurt more $50.00 for those two mofongo that’s insane, I don’t recommend the mofongo from here but everything else is pretty decent, sorry for this long review but I was really excited I was gonna enjoy this but the let down was...

Two non Spanish speaking female customers, one Chinese the other Black American. I was married to a Dominican and know good Dominican food. We were totally ripped off. The waiter brought incorrect orders. The chicken chicharrones were ordered with bones. We received them without the bones. I ordered Longaniza and received some unidentified scrapes of I think was either pork or beef, it was not on the menu. For the 2 dinners it should have been $23.60. I do not know how much the side order of unidentified meat was; however the portion was no more than a dollar. When we questioned the server, he no longer understood English. We were refused an itemized check , and told the bill was $38.00. The cashier could not explain the exorbitant check. We gave $40.00 and left. Horrible business practices. Do not go.
